I don't know the BB code to shrink an image. Can a mod please do so?
My silly tin can & string internet won't let me post a picture to flickr so I have no idea how to post a smaller one. http://www.schitzengiggles.net/tog/okke ... 1-1500.jpg
just returned from snapping a few pics at the local recreation reserve. Really dark to the west/southwest, a few rumbles of thunder, and one massive cumulonimbus updraft exploding within a few km of my area, plus a nice anvil to top it! Plus plenty of storm clouds flocking to the north and northeast (with plenty of new cells firing up), so could be one very thundery, rainy couple of hours... which could easily spoil my tennis lesson in about 30 minutes, so again mixed feelings
That's at about 5 o'clock looking S/SE from Box Hill.. Instability's neck of the woods on the right, and the St Kilda loving kid should be right underneath that convection.
Lily wrote:LOL HarleyB , we're on 0.0mm here too I'm sitting here looking at the one over you Onetahuti, it formed almost right over the top of me but didn't start dumping until it was just a few km's south of us.
Just had a few loud claps of thunder, between us I would say and now more heavy rain, humidity has gone from 60% about an hour ago to 87% now, 5.5 mm.
Mostly South and SE of me the good stuff needed that SB to push further North for good action here
Latest UK and GFS look almost indentical interms of rainfall and surface charts Friday and Saturday with just a sharp Upper and surface trough over us and no Low, be interesting to see if EC still holds with the low Tonight personally I would rather not have the low scenario as that would create strong to gale force N winds for here and Melbourne will mostly see a rainshadow if GFS & UK were to occur rainfall be more general widespread and not miss areas due to wind
Amazing what a difference a few km's can make, Onetahuti. We've had barely a drop, not nearly enough to wet the ground, but have heard thunder in the distance.

Karl can you pick a +ve C-G visually, or do you need a lightning tracker?
29.5C and overcast all day here, pretty muggy but dried out a bit with seabreeze more SE than the NE inflow during the day. 1014 hPa atm. Nothing threatening around here, 49% RH and back to 24C with the drier seabreeze. Wish we had a big bay so seebreeze could bring in a bit of moisture with it.

Woah! And big flash then BANG!
Confirmed by manual guage 30.2 mm, AWS showing 32 mm has near stopped. Thankfully because my old dog just needed only to wade to do his thing
Lost internet wireless during storm.
ok, scary drive home. Doreset road has minor flash flooding, enough to get you aquaplaning from time time time. visibility was incredibly low for a few patches there. Think i must have been traveling at the same speed as the cell as it was like this most of the way home from bayswater.
Latest GFS looks very interesting for Northern Vic over the next 4 days, especially along the Murray. Being notorously accurate in recent months, we could again be looking at more flooding.
Today is not that interesting here. A few drops of rain but no storms. Overcast with virtually no wind and only 23 degC. Friday will be when all the action happens North of the divide.
