Hi All.

Just a quick post as I need to go to bed so I can sleep for tomorrow.

I played around the Donald - Horsham area today, which turned out to be very nice indeed. Here are some teaser pics from the day:

Storm near Minyip as it started to Mature

Image
Storm near Minyip just before it reached Maturity.

Storm near Minyip at Maturity.

I took 352 pics today, so plenty to go through but just put those ones up to tease you a little :P I also have much video which I will put into a timelapse, particular interest in the Minyip cell because it was literally developing infront of me.

Bring on tomorrow.

WOW!! Did not expect to see storms here to the northwest here this evening. Fantastic light show off in the distance earlier this evening. Some of those cells looked as if they could have produced some hail, but definitely heavy rainfall.

And OMG. Totally un-expected amount of rainfall in Mildura. All from tonight and most in less than an hour!!!!! :o Look at those storms. I did not see them coming at all. Totally un-expected. Have to note that Mildura radar underestimates sometimes.

Also it is very wrong the BoM have not issued a STW. Flash flooding galore there likely. That is just so much rainfall. Cannot get over it!!

Awesome Shane! Look at the green in it. Can't wait to see the rest.

I went after that storm, but didn't have much luck. Didn't go as far west as you tho. At least it put on a show for someone.

The Mildura radar really is terrible, to get that much rain in such a short amount of time and if you were to go by the radar it's only light to moderate showers.

mildura still getting smashed by the looks of the lightning going on up there and yeah looking at the radar it seems like a mistake for there to be so much rain ther :P

SO after yesterdays storm behaviour what is on for today. any thoughts!! Where are the major areas for chasing today?

Storms are less likely today Mircoburst.
BOM chart indicates only a chance in areas that saw storms yesterday, as compared to "Likely" yesterday.
Temps aren't forecast to be as high as yesterday and no trigger will see convection struggle to break thru. (Trough is back into SA this morning)
Will get a better idea after this low cloud and fog clears and temps start rising.

Temps are around 4c cooler than this time yesterday, currently 17.5c at the moment.

I am thinking mostly western Victoria today in with a shot. Steering will be minimal again, so another day of slow-movers. In regards to the trigger, I think it's close enough to Victoria to allow for deep enough convection. If you look on the rdar, thunderstorms have been affecting parts off the SE coastline of SA this morning. I will have a closer look at things shortly and update my charts at around 11:30 AM.

Otherwise ... already warm outside, temperature 20 degrees, DP sitting on 15 degrees and rising. Winds east to northeast and will shift northeasterly during the day. ;)

Some low-scale Cu already about the place here. So I am in with marginal shot today.

Main area of interest today is the SW around the Mortlake/Hamilton/Portland area.

There is also a chance for Horsham but not a big one.

I am going to take my chances and head west to Hamilton and see what happens.

The below image illustrates the predicted convergence line in the SW corner. This is where the best storms will develop/be strengthening around 5pm today.

I stand corrected Microburst.
Already at 27c, so yes, in with a reasonable chance.

Jake, can you post the charts when they become available?

Microburst, you are definitely in with a decent chance today IMO.

Hi, a bit confused where I should post my images, so thought this was the safest bet, better late than never.
As a newbie, picture quality is poor, but hopefully will get better as time goes on, I storm-gaze as oppose to storm chase, so all photos are from my house, no use overtiring myself! I am still learning all the names for clouds and the formations and its been great reading everyones comments and photos and trying to match what is happening on the radars with what is actually happening.

From reading all the posts, Friday was the big chance for storms, so though I would take a quick snap in the morning to see what was forming.

May need to invest in a tripod for my phone!

This is when the wind started to change, the south westerly was quite strong

later on!

I was then treated to a fantastic light show to my East over Yarrawonga, however have not progressed to the stage yet of being able to capture lightning, but it was great! Also sorry for the different sized photos, I reduced them, but who knows what i have done wrong, thanks
