I haven't checked for Melbourne but 00z GFS is now going for 28 850T over us on Thursday afternoon. That is insane.

Small scrub fire in Kangaroo Ground to watch, some of you guys might be able to see that one.

there's somehting I've never seen before on the radar... all those white spots are being sucked towards Laverton (which is where the radar is based. Looks cool if you watch it.

40.8 so far here.

Latest GFS has gone nuts. The only slight respite is tomorrow due to earlier sea breezes. Thursday and Friday look worrying. Probably both about 43

Plenty of lightning in SA at the moment, just an isolated storm in NW Victoria.
Currently 41.1c on my PWS and still rising

That was one hell of a spike in temps in 10 minutes. City going from 41 to 43 and Avalon almost hitting 46. Surely they have their thermometer next to a jet's engine or something.

Just insane temps, but not unheard of ofcourse.

Emergency warnings for both the Kangaroo Ground and the Sunbury fire now. Not looking good.

Can see the smoke from Bayswater. I'd stay away from Warrandyte.

The Sunbury fire has crossed the Calder Fwy which is now blocked.

Very concerning! Stay safe everyone and obviously best wishes to the men and women in the CFA etc ... looking after this.

Otherwise doppler does indicate a very weak and shallow seabreeze along the Surf Coast. Very weak though not doing much at all.

There WAS a reason why that part of Melbourne wasnt settled apart from the rocks. Its just a barren flat windswept boiling plain. I dont know how people live there. They should get a tax deduction for a/c.

Love the forecast for the next 3 days. all 41 or 42, with some relief in the afternoon. Look at Adelaide. So jealous right now.

Here's hoping that:

1. Cloud develops early to give some cap on the temps
2. We get some storms to make things interesting.

I'm charging my batteries tonight...

41.6 so far now here

Hi all! Long time. I never log in but visit all the time.

Just thought I'd pop on and let you know BOM recorded temp of 46.3 at 3.31pm at Charlton (I'm a little east of Charlton, but it's just as hot here!).
Funny to think this week 3 years ago, we were preparing for massive flooding.... :/

Temp seems to have just peaked for us at 41.3. Currently 41.2 so that could rise again but looking unlikely.
There is a lot of lightning that has spilled over the border into the north-west between Horsham and Mildura.
OCF is going for 43 44 43 for the next four days here. It exceeded the forecast maximum here for today so I'm not sure what to make of that.

If the cloud moves in, It wont get below 30, might not get below 30 all week. Here is the latest pic from 3.30pm local time. Will the heat kill off the stormies in SA, will they drift south? will they SLAM melb? who knows.

I hate to be a nervous Nellie but this latest forecast is
Just about the worst I have ever seen for fires
Windy and hot with possible dry storms each day
I hope I am wrong but this could turn ugly
Fortunately the forests are relatively dry but for how long ?
