So many great reports coming in that I can hardly keep up, but all noted and appreciated
.
With all the snow, almost forgot to tally the rain. Turns out we're up to 42mm here, so 84mm mtd - 6mm to our August average.
I think many of us today are benefitting from what seems to be a slower departure of the low than originally forecast?

What a wild winters day
Should have more of them. Snow, sleet, graupel, heavy rain and nasty hail shower this evening. Quite a cover of hail across the yard. All up scored near 20mm today, so event near 40mm and our MTD is about 150mm. Another above average month. Not seen it this wet up here since shifting to the Nongs in 2001. We probably had heavier rain on 2010/11 but that was during summer so higher evap. This year it’s been wet since about January 10
Hopefully that La Niña now starts cranking.
Max of just 4.0C and min of 0.3C. One more photo (got plenty more to process). Love all your photos btw
One of those days when I can see how the Nongs used to get a lot more snow. Back in the 1950s today’s weather would have been a degree and a bit colder. For so much of the day it was about 1C too warm for snow.

BTW in the hard to believe stakes, 40.7C at Yampi Sound in northern WA. If confirmed that is a new Australian August record. We must be a chance to see one of the biggest contrasts on record today across OZ.
Negative IOD events often see hot conditions strike earlier in northern Australia, so maybe a sign.

La Nina + Negative IOD?

All surrounding areas are between 7 and 10 degrees, but I'm at 3.3
Clear skies too with no wind

Brilliant weather day. Having the moisture and the cold together just great.
And congrats HB - The Age featured your snow snaps!
Top of just 6c here today with 15mm and showers right through and continuing. Current 3c.

Yeah, saw that. I tweet photos at
https://mobile.twitter.com/ozhillbilly .
Wet wet night up here. We’ve now had about 30mm last 30 hours. Currently pouring, with a nice stream set up. Could well get another 20-40mm before it wraps up tomorrow. These cyclonic swly warm air advection events can be very slow to clear and clock up big totals in east Central. MTD is something around 180mm
Starting to see strong rises in the creeks and rivers. Bunyip is now in minor flood, and Yarra is rising quickly. Such a shame we can’t get out, as today would be amazing at elevation our east. Most be a fantastic cover at Donna Buang, Lake Mt etc today.

20 mm here yesterday, just kept coming up, was very surprising.
About 34 for the event, over 75 for the month.
What will spring bring??????

Great photos HB and everyone. Certainly has been a cold, wet (and snowy!) weekend. Not quite as drenching here as areas to my west and east, but we had 16mm in the last 24 hours and 28mm for the event. That takes us up to 67mm MTD, which is now just above average. YTD is 677mm.

Yep, it certainly was. A similar thing happened a few years ago when we got a heap of rain from a wraparound occluded front from the Southwest. Rare, but not unprecedented.

33mm in the gauge this morning, and all of that has fallen at 4C or less; most at 3C or less! Imagine if that was a direct hit at 1000m. The Divide behind us tops out at about 890m from memory; might have to drive up for a look.
63mm for the thread and 105mm mtd, so 15mm over our August average.

26.2mm's in the 24 hours to 9am here that's 35mm's in the last 48 hours and take's my monthly to 81.8mm's
Ave is 74mm's so now above that.
Mostly fine now with some sunny breaks just 0.2mm since 9am.
8.5c now so already above yesterdays top of 7.1c.
Still a bit more rain expected over the next couple of days then fine and milder weather later next week.

Cold one here with a max of 6.1C. Another 3mm in the gauge.
There’s another front tomorrow morning so another burst of showers. Then a long milder spell, with perhaps a brief change around Sunday. Starting to look quite warm next week, but might change before we get there.

Great week so much rain for some and great week for many with lots of locations seeing rain 5 to 7 days in a row
50 to 100cm o fSnow in the Alps and many in the south and NE 30 to 50mm for the week
36mm here over the weekend a great fall
Things are very wet here now, so a mild sunny week to dry out and grow will be good.
Bit more in the north would have been good but they have done ok with 10-20mm for the week generally help the crops along
As HB said def a mild week and first 20c looking really good later this week, into the weekend mid 20s in the W
Spring is coming hopefully warmer more stromy weather will follow in the coming weeks as well
Record heat in N WA over weekend with back to back low 40s the heat is coming.

Another 4.5mm in the gauge, 67.5mm for the dates and our 13th straight day of recorded rain. (Showers again now so that'll make it 14 straight tomorrow).
Great to get the big rains but also about ready for that fine spell. I haven't seen more than 4C since Friday morning, so I'm guessing this is one of the longest cold spells we've had in our 25 years here - certainly had colder minimums, but the duration of low maximums must be up there. Unfortunately I don't keep good temperature records to back this up, however burning firewood like the Flying Scotsman!
