Well that was a surprise! I was down in Bayswater and from there it looked like armageddon over the Dandenongs. Went up via Mountain Highway to Sassafras - still dry. Carried on up to Olinda through a patch or two of fog to arrive home in sunshine and everything dry - no rain at all. How on earth did it miss us??? :o

Cool photos :) Nothing here in Ferny Creek. Oh well we were lucky last night although there are still more storms to come. I don't know how it missed us Geoff

Are we expecting anything more today for Melbourne and Central areas?

To paraphrase Darryl Kerrigan in The Castle, 'How's the humidity?' Like a steam bath outside!

Winds seem to have swung round to the S/W behind that storm front with slightly cooler air now in Central and Western Vic. Still, with some clear air, an unstable atmosphere and the cold front still approaching from the S/W I'd expect more showers/storms to break out.

Well that was a dud. Missed here by a couple of km's at most with 5-10mm falls peaking at 18mm to our southeast (Bunyip). A second maximum in the western burbs into the innner Bayside with a string of 15-20mm falls - Sandringham picked up 22mm. ''

Zilch here - well a trace. Had a series of loud rumbles and fog, but otherwise nothing to get excited about. Not exactly how I expect it to play out :(

Upper trough is amplifying to our west so more to come, but probably more rain and showers than storms.

EDIT> Ha ha - just got a brief cracker of a thundery shower. Winds gone back northerly in the burbs :?: and temps have jumped. Instability building again?

The temps are shooting up again. I'm in the city but back at home in Wyndham Vale its up to 25.6C and rising. That can only be good news for storms.

Lots of rumbles here now. This system certainly keeps you guessing. This one looks headed straight for us (sorry Geoff that means it will probably just miss you!).

3mm in about 5 minutes :D Too small and too fast to give a lot.

Finally getting some rain. Not heavy but big fat tropical drops nevertheless, and that wonderful rain smell.

Had 11mm from the brief storm at 2pm
Looking outside its very convective
It looks like it will all merge into one heavy blob of rain tonight

Enjoy - here's an areal shot of the early arvo storm front. Dipped just under us. Got some big video files as well!

I wouldn't want to be doing the forecasting at the moment that's for sure!
Next little cell seems to be heading more my way, Mt Dandenong has just disappeared from view, fingers crossed!
(Nice toy HB, want one of them I do!)

I want one too,
I get a clear view to the city from my cubby house..
I've watched many pass us by like this one today,
So close I could nearly touch it..

Can we expect anything else? It's so warm and humid that it seems a waste if not

The chance of storms is lessening now I reckon Sean, though still a chance, but I think the BOM forecast of more general heavy rain is probably on the money with the cold front peaking over us in the next 12-18 hours or so. Still lots to come. :D

The risk is definitely reducing as we head into the latter part of this afternoon, although with the frontal system approaching, the risk cannot be ruled out entirely. Definitely some lovely rain expected across central and eastern parts with the next part of the system. :)

Lovely photos DJ, what kind of drone is it?
