Just over 8C max here today, cracked a big shard of ice off a birdbath at about 5pm which was frozen solid this morning. Frost didn't clear here until after 10am when the temp reached the positives.

A bit bizarre with all the cars still coming up the mountain today. Most of the snow would have melted by now.

There have always been mass pilgrimages up the mountain after the media has reported snow, going back decades at least, with news crews and choppers a common feature as well. This event however is nowhere near as significant as what we used to see regularly pre 2000. In the past, the media would only get interested if there was settled snow down to lower parts of Mount Macedon and Macedon.

Most of the settled snow remained above 850m which has never been a particularly uncommon event up here. Most times, heavy falls up above the village go unnoticed by the general public. I have been up there when there has been as much as 7cm on the ground and only a handful of people around.

In June 1995 we had a heavy cover over most of the Macedon Ranges area with some settled snow down as low as Gisborne.

1.7C here atm. I have a feeling it might not be quite as cold tomorrow, maybe more like -1C to -2C.

Whilst I agree with you drought breaker I must make mention that it did settle on the higher parts of Gisborne with a dusting to a cm at around 8pm Friday night, which is still quite impressive for any timeframe.

Remember that event! Snow started in Gisborne at around 11am from memory. Drive to Woodend (working for Telstra), was thru snow and black ice. Walking pace max! The trip from Woodend to Lancfield had white paddocks all the way with snow on the ground at Lancefield.

Drought breaker I walked down as far as Sefton yesterday morning and there was a great cover down that far and that is around 700m.
When you drive up MM road you don't really get a good idea how much snow is actually inside the properties along the road . Too many trees along the road to ever et the snow settle a lot.
After the very cold start this morning virtually none of the snow at my pace melted any further . I've still got snow on the southern side of my roof.
There would have been heaps up at the top in shaded areas.
It was freezing up here today.

The air seems drier tonight as there is not as much dew and frost on the cars compared to last night. There's a very good chance tomorrow morning might be colder than last night in the city (that's the temp that all non weather interested people will use tomorrow around the water cooler). I expect the following conversation lol:

"did you know yesterday morning was the coldest since 1998?"...
whilst in the background I mumble "not since June this year at my place" and grind my teeth lol.

The frost is more evident here today, it's whiter. Looks like corker of a morning. I've chosen a great week to have off! It's -2C here, not as cold as yesterday.
Trentham was down to -6.2C earlier. Awesome temp!

Adelaide recorded its coldest AUgust morning EVER (equalling the record back in 1888):

This from WeatherZone:

Adelaide chilled to 0.9 of a degree just before sunrise, seven degrees below average and equalling the August record, set in 1888.

It was even frostier in the northern suburbs, getting as cold as -1.3 degrees at Parafield and -0.7 at Edinburgh, both within a degree of the August record.

Severe frost occurred away from the city, including the Murraylands, Riverland, Mid North and North East Pastoral.

Yunta was one of the coldest spots in the state, freezing to -5.8 degrees, only a day after recording a minus six-degree minimum, achieving its coldest pair of mornings in eight years.

Both Snowtown and Renmark also had their coldest pair of mornings in eight years, dipping below -2.5 and -5 degrees respectively. Renmark chilled to -5.6 degrees this morning, 10 degrees below average and its coldest August morning in at least 20 years.

Late last week we had a strong cold front cross southeastern Australia, bringing snow to the Adelaide Hills but leaving the atmosphere very dry in its wake.

The next few mornings will still be chilly with widespread frost but generally it won't be quite as cold as the last few due to a bit more cloud-cover.

A high pressure system over South Australia will linger until at least mid-week, keeping winds light away from the southeast and far north of the state and enabling frost to develop.

Frost at this time of year is usually not a big problem but to have consecutive frosts is. And with the mild and wet start to winter, crops have matured faster than normal, making them more vulnerable to damage.

- Only twice in 127 years of records has Adelaide dipped below freezing. On June 7th and 8th in 1982 it got as cold as -0.2 and -0.4 respectively.

A few images of the snow that is still on the ground at home this afternoon. Im really surprised by how long it is lasting. Probably because of a combination of really cold frosty nights and absolutely no drizzle or rain since the snow stopped falling early on Saturday morning.
I went out around the mountain today and snow is still evident around the cow paddocks at Alton and Hascombe at the top of Alton Road, which is around the same elevation as my place (870m). There is plenty in the Llama paddock ( up to 900m) at Duneira across the road from me.
Up on the summit of the mountain there are still a few good drifts and smatterings of snow despite al the touristy wear and tear :D Cameron drive was actually still icy in shady areas, a bit scary!

This is definitely the longest ive had this much snow on the ground at home and i imagine it will be there until it gets rained on laster in the week.

A top day up here today, bright sun, no wind and a frost. Temp -2C to 4Cmax
Just dropped back to 0C now

What a great system that was (apart from the wind that is) don't you wish we had about half a dozen of these sort of systems every winter. Not quite as cold here last night but still got down to 0.1c.

Looks like a stubborn high for next week parked to our West, giving us a nice chilly week. Not too much rain probably but quite chilly for days on end.
