Yes I noticed that little swirl west of Tassie moving up, it has the look of a little "polar low" to me, will be interesting to see what it brings with it!

hard to believe anything is coming really with all this sun and partly cloudy skies.

ofcourse the satellite shows something completely different. People will get a shock

looks to me that the coldest air will go north of us and over the alps towards canberra as picked by gfs last week (I think).

In saying that, looks like it's coming from a lot further south than Tuesday.

patience my friends...patience.

It all seems to be deliberately avoiding me up til now, barely anything yet, but that huge cold pool out in the Bight must have my name on it. :D

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria

Note: This Flood Watch is a heads-up for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning (see note below)

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip)

Issued at 7:21 pm EST on Saturday 28 June 2014

A cold front will continue to cross Victoria on Saturday with an associated low pressure system expected to move across Tasmania on Saturday night. A cold, vigorous southwesterly airstream will develop in the wake of this system which will ease on Monday as the low moves further into the Tasman Sea and a strong high pressure system builds over the Bight.

Showers have been forecast overnight Saturday into Sunday for the Greater Melbourne catchments with rainfall totals up to 10mm expected. Areas of rain with local heavy falls have been forecast during Sunday from mid morning through to late afternoon. Rainfall totals up to 30 mm are possible in this period particulary in the catchments east of Melbourne.

The forecast rainfall is expected to cause stream rises in the Greater Melbourne catchments with the possibility of minor flooding developing in the Eastern Melbourne catchments from late Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Melbourne Water will continue to monitor the situation.

Note: This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. For detailed explanation see http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/brochur ... atch.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:

Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
Keep well clear of fallen power lines

Current Emergency Information is available at http://www.ses.vic.gov.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Current Road and Traffic Information is available at the VicRoads website: http://traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The SES advises that rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas may contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks. People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslide and debris on roads.
Weather Forecast:

For the latest weather forecast see http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Next Issue:

The next Flood Watch will be issued by 10.30AM Sunday 29 June 2014.

Flood Warnings, Flood Watches, River Height and Rainfall information are available on the Bureau of Meteorology web site at http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Flood Warnings and Flood Watches for Victorian Catchments are available on: Telephone Weather Service No. 1300 659217.

11.8mm's in the 24 hours to 9am here MTD 79mm's which is just above average now.
Heaviest rain in the Melbourne area anyway has been just to the south of the Metro area with Cerberus picking up 40mm's and Rhyll on Phillip Island scoring 30mm's. I was lucky enough to be on the northern fringe of some of those showers.
Still raining steadily here. Down to 8.1c overnight here so not that cold - currently steady on 9.2c.
Winds have eased of a bit now. Showery day I think but it should ease tonight.

Some nice heavy showers streaming through here this morning! Very chilly though with a brisk wind. More to come! :)

20.5 mm to 9 am plus a couple more since is taking us close to 100 mm for the month which would be an excellent result. Can't compete with Mt William to the west though; 238 mm and climbing!

Great to see the west getting some love after so many systems favouring the east (under the current circumstances, I'm sure the easterners won't begrudge me saying that :) !)

Alpine snow depths are getting right up there for June; we might be in with a chance for snow tonight - temps should be low enough but will there be any moisture?
