Vic: Fine Spell with cold nights - Then Who Knows?

Post by Geoff »

Time to move on. Certainly a settled few days to come this week with a ridge settling over us, giving some frosty nights in some places. But as we've already talked about, there is a lot of uncertainty how it will end, with all the models disagreeing on the outcome so far. So feel free to speculate on different scenarios, and lets hear who gets some wintery night time temperatures beforehand. :D

Certainly hope we get some cold temperatures soon. Night time temps so far this month are about 3 degrees above normal and day time temps are about 1.5c above at my place anyway.
Access is hinting at a bit of of a cold outbreak later Saturday with thicknesses dropping below 536 on Saturday night in southern Victoria but that will probably change.

massive variation in temps overnight with only a few kilometres making the difference. 1.7 here but 5 in scoresby. even the city had a huge diff. 8.6 at the old site but 5.6 at the new one. I wonder what caused this.

That is just ridiculous!! 8.6c! While the suburbs were all between 0 and 3c?? That is frost temperatures while the city struggles to fall below 8.6c??? No wonder our minimums are at record highs!! Yes its been mild the weather of late but even on "Cold" nights it stays above average now!! I can't wait until its abolished! The sooner the better! Even the new Olympic park site which is closer to the bay fell to 5.6c last night

Scoresby was 3.4c not 5c Stevco, none of the BOM sites/suburbs were above 3c last night

I was up on Ridge Road in the hills last night trying to photograph the aurora and it was CHILLY in the wind. Was unsuccessful with my attempt. The bz kept swinging north

point taken. But at one stage early this morning there was thta difference of about 4 degrees between us and scoresby.

nevertheless the variation was amazing last night across melbourne. Can't wait till the old site is torn down in the city.

Got down to 2.9c here last night the coldest here since 2.0c on May 8.

I agree regarding the old site but not to rip it down. Convert the official recordings to the Olympic site but keep the old site to compare. I find it interesting how the urban heat is affecting recordings and conditions.

Still not sure what to make of the weekend. Some models still showing a cut-off forming near Bass Strait but who knows. Still model watching at the moment.

Down to 0.2 last night and currently sitting on 6.3. Might be heading for a couple of maximums below 10 later in the week going off the Kilmore forecast but who knows would love ACCESS charts scenario to come off but the progression looks wrong IMO
