SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

for DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES

For people in parts of the
Central Forecast District.
Issued at 8:37 pm Friday, 30 November 2012.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Ballarat and Bacchus Marsh.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home.
* keep away from creeks and drains.
* do not drive vehicles through flooded areas.
* stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* listen to the radio for storm updates
* switch off your computer and electrical appliances
The next warning is due to be issued by 11:40 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Melbourne Area, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at http://www.bom.gov.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Southern burbs of Ballarat might be in for some hail perhaps, looks a bit serious although moving quickly.

Was on the roof for about 30 minutes at 8pm. Good Cu to the West and North West. Just checked the radar, Wow ballarat is going to cop it. Highest intensity rain rate echoes that the radar can pick are being received.

Just watching the flashes to the north, not close enough though. A few rumbles only.

we missed the purple stuff in Brown Hill, fewww!! Lots and lots of lightning. Damn DSLR is flat!! Took a small bit of footage.

Lightning going off everywhere to my southwest from that black cored storm. Hoping to eat some humble pie soon after my sulking earlier - will be delicious!

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 9:00 pm, severe thunderstorms were
detected on weather radar near Ballarat and the area southwest of Ballarat.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to
affect Brisbane Ranges, the area south of the Brisbane Ranges and the area west
of Werribee by 9:30 pm and Lara, Werribee and the area west of Lara by 10:00 pm.

people of Geelong and suburbs north of Geelong will be under attack soon from this monster, rain has stopped here; all over here now until tomorrow sun up. I'd say cricket will be a wash out.....???
