I think it's about to get real nasty, real quick here :D Constant, rolling thunder above, flashing CC lightning, no rain... yet.

... And it's hit! One with the lot, half a pea to pea sized hail, some strong gusts, rain is belting down coming in sheets off the pergola roof and the lightning and thunder continues. :woooo:

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria

Note: This Flood Watch is a heads-up for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning (see note below)

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip)
Issued at 3:30 pm EST on Monday 23 April 2012

A low pressure system is well south of Tasmania. A cold front near southwestern Victoria will move across the State today, while another low pressure system will develop just northeast of Tasmania by this evening. The new low will intensify and move across central Bass Strait during Tuesday and then away over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday.

Rain developing during the morning with local heavy falls possible. Rainfall totals from 60 to 100 mm have been forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday.

The forecast rainfall may cause stream rises and possible areas of minor flooding to develop in the Greater Melbourne catchments from Tuesday evening.

The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Melbourne Water is monitoring the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if and when required.

Note: This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. Havent visited for quite a while, been super busy.

Then i read the second post and feel like vomiting. Thankfully, steveco was corrected by most on here by what the BOM had forecast.

We all know that the BOM have an agenda, and that agenda is to keep the temps up as high as possible for as long as possible, until they concede the models were right 6 days ago and use some common sense.

Also steveco dont forget 19 in the CBD is 16 everywhere else so its not unusual for them to keep the temps up when forecasting as the UHI effect is almost ridiculous now, Tuesday will be a total fire ban in the CBD whilst it snows in the Dandenongs.

In any case, this will be a lashing of biblical proportions, and we will get at least 150% of the average this week for April through a fair swathe of Vic. Also wouldnt discount damage tomorrow night as the low intensifies, has the potential to be damaging winds to 100km/hr IMO not unlike Feb 1 2005.

Sounds like it could be a cold dawn service at the war memorial at Mount Macedon, at just under 1000m it could be unpleasant for all those in attendance on Anzac Day if this forecast cold weather comes off.

AV = :roffl:
Was doing a garden job down in Montrose today watching the storms build up, first couple missed us, then at 3pm just as we were loading up the van all hell let loose, bombarded by marble sized hail and close CG lightning all around, we've never packed up so fast in our lives!
7mm at home from that storm, expecting ten times that by the end of the week.

15.5mm here today. Reports of torrential rain, thunder and small hail. 23.3mm here for the last two days, so the extended dry spell has come to a very abrupt end.

Tomorrow and Wednesday look very cold and wet. 20mm widespread on and south of the ranges with areas of heavier falls near the coast and eastern ranges. Melbourne should struggle to 14C tomorrow and not much better on Wednesday.

In Macedon/lower parts of Mt Macedon tomorrow it will be very lucky to get to 10C, I'd be thinking more like 8C for a max. The top of the mountain will be lucky to get above 5C.

Bay effect will be in full swing as soon as wind turns SWly. Surface temp mid-bay is nearly 19 degC, and Bass Strait not much colder at 18 degC - quite warm for late-April. With 500 HPa temps getting as low as -29degC, waterspouts might be an issue too.
