Crickey, that is one sensational picture there Anthony, looks amazing! :D

Nothing here yet, although watching that cell out west with interest. Looks like it will all go north of me.

Roll on tomorrow, as I feel that is it for the day.

Hoping the Xmas cheer will get rid of the sea breeze not to push North.

Just came back from Eastlink over pass looking towards the Dandenongs and that none stop updraft shooting up is one of the more impressive I've seen in awhile. I've been there for the past hour 1/2 watching and taking pics, it will look awesome if it holds for sunset

The majority of Melbourne metro was never in line for thunderstorms today, hence the forecast 'mainly in outer northern and eastern suburbs' and 'mainly on the ranges'. The sea breeze kills any chance of storms when it develops early and that's what happened today and yesterday. In the afternoon when the sea breeze extends inland where it is hot and humid, that's where it actually acts as a trigger and aids storm development.

Tomorrow there will be no seabreeze, the winds will shift NNW and freshen and a low pressure trough will deepen over the state. Thunderstorms will be scattered and affect most of the state, especially central and eastern areas. EC going for 19mm here and around 11mm for the city.

Mangalore got smashed by a storm this evening - 26mm and wind gusts to 70 km/h. Interesting temperature drop from 33 to 18 degC as well!

This is one of the first pics I took at Eastlink over pass Police rd of one of the more impressive updrafts I've seen in awhile down here and it just continued on refreshing itself over and over again.

Think it might explode overnight as i suggested earlier, it couldnt hold all this moisture for much longer, and i just noticed mid level towers all over the sky so its going to be very unstable overnight. Could be a good lightshow for us..

Yeah it's a great view to the N and NE, though on the sides of the bridge the trees are getting to high in spots.

Def unstable out there now, fair bit of activity showing up on radar down south

I watched the radar for most of the day, the storm's path was Buninyong, Ballan, Macedon, Gisborne, Wallan, Whittlesea, Hurstbridge, Kinglake, Healsville then breaks open again. It is funny as it looks like it is going around the border of the Central district.

This is a funny path as it usually North/South or Northwest/Southeast not West/East.

Phew... what a day it's been! :D

Would loved to have been able to go out to some of the many lookouts scattered around the Dandenong Ranges and eastern/southeast suburbs, but was tied down by preparations for our family Christmas get-together tomorrow, but I'm still very happy to walk away with over 200 pics of the countless storms that formed to the east, northeast, north, and northwest... I was even treated to a lone but very sharp rumble of thunder at about 5:40PM as the MASSIVE cell (Warburton/Noojee area) which AUS_Twisted, Anthony, and Tizza all photographed exploded from almost nowhere!! :)

Still quite unstable out there, could be more showers and thunderstorms overnight and certainly tomorrow, hopefully no annoying 'seabreeze convergence zone' to bother us...

Merry Christmas everyone!

Where do I start?? left Broadford at 1345 heading for Inlaws place Chirnside Park. The cell that erupted (and died) near YanYean around 1430, looked a monster for a while. Its remains had Chirnside Park in shadow when I arrived. During christmas lunch (early), I was almost sooking watching the radar along the ranges - including Broadford(mentioned in a previous post). Aus Twisted took pics of a cell from Eastlink. I got pics of it(will post tomorrow) from Chirnside Park(the storm was just west of Warburton, and had incredible structure from fairly close range - even heard a couple of LOOOOOOOOOOONG rolls of thunder, before it moved away. Hoping for more tomorrow (being free and on the road).

Small cell just bobbed up over Geelong, just received an SMS from my girlfriend that lives there. It was so loud that she thought a car had hit her house. It was just after sunset and then BANG! It grew out of nothing!

Storm a few miles to our Northwest has erupted and is VERY lightning active. Pity it will probably miss us.... again for the 20th time this Spring/Summer!
