Lovely little system last night, was going to stay home and take it in from the veranda, but watched it falling over at it came off the ranges and breaking up... took a small 5km drive and found a nice spot to watch before the rain hit. Got home around 12.15am when the heavens opened up, much to my surprise we got 24mm in 45 minutes - not seen rain like that in a long while!
Still trying to optimise my camera for lightning shots, defintiely need more practice, might upload one or two later if I can find any good ones :)

Certainly a real hit-or-miss system that's just been. We got 21mm, airport AWS 28.4mm, Redesdale 48mm....

The real standout has to be Halls Gap - 90mm in 20 minutes according to the BOM on the news this morning! That has to be close to a record! I'm trying to find record rainfall rates but without success.

Here's a list of record rainfall rates for each state. They don't have a 20 minute duration listed for Victoria, but the closest is 44mm in 18 mins and 54mm in 25 mins. So it seems likely that is a record!!

14 mm here brings us to exactly 1070 mm ytd. Just need 9 mm more to break last year's record.

You'd have to question that I reckon. A rain rate of 270mm p/h for that amount of time in Vic would be phenomenal...

12mm here from that lot in the wee hours of this morning. Not bad at all considering that it looked like it was breaking up as it made it's way across the western suburbs.

Very pleased to report that for once we got a lot less than a lot of folks, 16mm from a ripper thunderstorm after midnight, giving an event total of 18mm. Didn't want or need more than that, so all in all a good system for here. :D

Had a further intense 20mm last night ,watched lightning in the distance to our north ,east and south. A total of 42mm for this event. Over flowing tank and vegetable patch very happy :P
ABC country hour on ABC radio this morning was interesting with interviews from Farmers around the Stawell area
Fencing down, Reports from individuals in that area of 110mm , 117mm and 140mm at conconjoelfrom that storm.
One farmer said he had to go looking for his mob of sheep . He found them 3km away in another sheep paddock.
Reports of sheep dying in flash flooding ..
Also listened to a Mildura farmer talking about DeJavo of last years flooding.. He said the same thing happened like yesterdays rain up there last year at around the same time and then not long after the flooding that caused extensive damage. He was convinced that they will have a repeat of last year ,He feels the flooding will occur again.

That fall of 90mm in 20 mins at Halls Gap is just crazy. Could'nt imagine how heavy that rain would be.

Melbourne rain gauge in 2011 is now ranked 22 in the wettest year on record. That will no doubt change within the next week.

20.7mm here in the end, less than half of what was recorded just a few kms up the mountain. Huge rainfall gradient between northern slopes and southern slopes of the divide.

Nasty anticyclonic gloom day today and more of the same tomorrow. There were even a few local showers around this evening. It's not the norm to have 8/8 SCu all day in summer, it's quite unusual actually and indicative of higher than normal moisture levels in the atmosphere. That's 2 summers in a row now with an extremely charged atmosphere with high humidity and now high 850Ts coming into play for Christmas, this could easily mean dangerous storms developing across the state.

5.2mm was the most I recorded last night... small-fry compared to the previous event I'll say lol :)

Last night's storm just passed to our north, but we copped about 20 minutes of thunder and lightning sometime after midnight, along with several hours of wind and steady at times heavy but not torrential rain :)

It was nice seeing a few storms pop up around the place, particularly to the northeast, on Friday and Saturday... looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next event :D
