What a great hour! Was so close to going to bed tonight all disappointed when almost out of nowhere spectacular two thunderstorms sweep into Melbourne from the west/northwest, not a great deal of lightning (certainly compared to Septembe 28th) but still some decent CGs
I went out with my dad around 11:30PM for a mini-storm chase to a couple of local vantage points and managed to capture 1 or 2 good lightning strikes in a movie clip as the first line of cells brushed passed and headed towards Gippsland, the moon managed to peak out from behind the edge of the storm clouds.
After about 20 minutes we returned home and I prepared myself for the second, bigger line which hit just after midnight... not as lightning-active as the first one, but one very, very PERIOUSLY DANGEROUSLY close lightning strike, which I recorded on camera... albeit blurry but quite understandable given how frightening it was for me!!!!
Not sure how much rain I've recorded but I'll know by 9AM. I'm staying up for a bit in case another stray thunderstorm or two suddenly develop and head for the Dandenong Ranges area...
