Survived the turbulent gust front here. Amazing cloud as it approached. Got a bit scary
Just looking out my window towards Bendigo. Castlemaine to Maryborough on the horizon. It is black, black. When that lets go..wow! Watch out bendigo.
We are in a clearer area now but low and behold there is some more developing out to the west. The cells start as a grey tinge and then get darker and darker. Winds gone and cloud slowed to nearly standstill. This is when the rain can get heavy..
Bit of a non event in Tullamarine... Plenty of rain for about 30mins but have had much much worse....No hail here...
I did hear the Airport sirens go off about 10 mins ago so perhaps there is more coming....The sirens usually go off for severe lightning though....
My backyard is a bit of a mess...AND the wife informed me Id forgotten to bring in the washing....
Got long distance shots of those first two cells that went over the bay from here in yarra glen. Absolutely massive storms. Currently getting our turn with nice downpour and heaps of lightning.

Can also confirm Drouin hit very hard, my garage partially flooded - road outside Drouin cop shop flooded - Drouin fish and chip shop had water pouring thru roof and under front door, had to close for the night. Very nasty line sent to us via Melb sth east suburbs. Was watching the line just before it hit and could definitely see partial rotation in the clouds.
2nd bout of heavy rain and flangs approaching as I type.

Wow, just wow, that gust was intense, house was showered with sticks and bit off the trees, as soon as the gust hit the power went down and the rain started. Lasted only a short while then all calm. Light rain for us now so it looks like this storm is going around the mountain.

Oh Gawd! I knew that second glass of red with dinner was a pistake!
Sorry Ducky! Apparently it can be something to do with the distance of the lightning, and/or dust or particles in the atmosphere.
Pengaz it was definitely a supercell, the rotation was just crazy. I learnt about supercell's when I lived in Brisvegas many years ago and it was black and green and spinning. The wall cloud was so low to the ground. Masses of strobe lightning, small to medium hail and the scud getting sucked in was amazing. You don't see that as often in Melbourne.
