Those severe winds of 120kmh are moving up to affect all areas of Melbourne over the coming few hours. Steer clear of parking under trees and stay away from trees as things are very boggy and they are easily toppled in these conditions.

Winds of 100kmh in Geelong at the moment, extending to Avalon and across the southern bay!!

Large Upper jetstream air cell that has been moving across southern australia since the 15th feb. west to east.
http://www.wunderground.com/global/Regi ... tream.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Coupled with the lower ground and lower cloud level area moving in a similar direction. Put those two vectors together.
The high pressure system to the west . its southern isobar pattern shunting winds west to east. over vic. Winds could continue for 24 hrs??

I think the worst of the winds will stay South of us and move out to sea, infact there has been some easing over the past half hour, winds will continue to ease later this afternoon into this evening be nowhere near as strong as this morning and early afternoon

Can confirm how windy it was last night being on the Spirit Of Tasmania, wasn't the most pleasant 10 hour boat journey I've ever been on! Alot of sick people aboard...

30.6mm here for this system. Monthly total is now 108.8mm, summer total is up to 406.2mm.

EDIT: Year to date is sitting on 327.5mm. The wind was shocking this morning. Power was knocked out to my area from around 9am-11:30am which is a pain in the **** when you want breakfast, lol.

How diverse this small state of Victoria is weatherwise!!!!!!!!!

Very warm and humid windy NW'ly day here after rain stopped at 8:30am (event total 13.75mm).

18.9 - 33.1C here today, a hot one which knocked a few of the older golfers around - nobody expected a hot day here!

Still very warm and humid, the wind chimes ratt'lin, thought it would be cold by now! [edit] currently 26C, 50% RH @ 19:15.

Play golf again at Sale tomorrow, bet it will be cold, showery and windy then! ;)

38mm here Peter, so very consistent totals for at least this area of the North Central. Thank goodness no issues with the local creek or the Goulburn this time, though I suspect there will be more issues with them at least once more in the next 12 months.

15.6mm overnight and now 257mm for the month. (325mm for the year)

A selection of the larger Melbourne dams:

Thomson received a nice 25mm (100mm MTD, 150mm YTD, 37.1% Full)
Cardinia 16.6mm (148mm MTD, 227mm YTD, 64.5%)
Upper Yarra 13.2mm (29mm MTD, 104mm YTD, 77.4%)
Sugarloaf 9.8mm (124mm MTD, 216mm YTD, 99.5%)
Silvan 19.8mm (205.6mm MTD, 299.8mm YTD, 89.2%)

Elders (http://www.eldersweather.com.au/dam-level/vic/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) has Cardina rising between about 7% since Jan 1, 2011. Thomson a couple of percent increase and given its volume size any whole percentage increase is quite signifincant. However, the Upper Yarra Dam is on a free fall, falling almost 10%.

Hi guys,

Here are a couple of shots we took yesterday after that small storm cell passed through.

The rainshaft. There was some large droplets in there!

A pano of the rain shaft a little while later:

The entire cell as it moved into the city. This is pretty much what it looked like when you guys down near the bay got hit. :D

Hope you find them interesting
Cheers, Cam
