Correct Rhino.
The SWW for Flash Flooding is more pre-cautionary, but as we have seen, some isolated very heavy falls have occurred. Tomorrow the Bureau is expecting moisture "signals" to rise and thus have issued the Flood Watches.

I note that the Maribrynong river gauge is showing a since 9am fall of 35mm (hmmm!)

Now passing through 50mm for the system so far, and still raining steadily at home.....
Hope my drains cope.

Latest 4 day BOM chart shows wet weather well into the weekend for most of VIC.
Fair ole line of activity down inland SE (Dandy/Paky).

EDIT: Line is now lightning active.

Yes scattered thunderstorms are likely today, particularly in the clearer air that is around. Otherwise most of it will be embedded this afternoon and evening. Lovely rain areas over here this morning continuing to tamper on down. Looks like some slightly heavier stuff here shortly.

Currently: Temperature at 22 degrees, DP at 21 degrees and northeasterly winds averaging 10km/h.

Got a quick look at the cell that developed near Dandenong whilst in the City. Looked beautiful! The base was very dark and looked as if it was dropping a lot of rain. Also appeared to be a bit of a wall cloud developing underneath the base (not too sure though).

Looked like a beautiful storm. :D

Has been raining here all day with nothing but drizzle. Hoping things might pick up a bit soon.

Cheers, Cam :D

The sky has hardly changed here since Saturday evening. Just the same SCu and As mix with drizzly periods. If it means anything, it's a little bit brighter to the east than to the west atm. What would be nice is if it all miraculously cleared allowing cells to fire up but with DPs around 19C-20C this just doesn't seem possible.

It's a real mess atm. A whole heap of moisture but no mechanism for widespread rain. There have been high to very high totals here and there to this point but most places have just seen moderate falls.

Tomorrow there is a better chance for more widespread rain and then Friday looks like the big one when we will see all the flash flooding and mayhem.

That confirms the difference in rain rates with this tropical in-feed. 60mm/hr rain rates are good enough to start causing issues.

Keep the obs and future thoughts on this event coming! :)

Awesome. Just got smashed by that storm over Pearcedale/Somerville. Booming thunder and heavy rain with visibility down to 50 metros or so for a few moments. Two direct hits in two days for me on Westernport.

13 mm since 9 am making 53 mm so far.

Some very 'dense' rain falling here at times that isn't as impressive on the radar as it is in real terms - something I've noticed during other rainfall events with extreme humidity; worth being aware that radar guidance alone may underestimate what's in store. I'm guessing (and experts please correct me) that this is related to small droplet size giving a less impressive return?

Radar starting to look a bit more impressive now. Atmosphere can't handle the relentless humidity any longer.
