Aviation central

Post by daviescr »

Hi everyone, I know there are a few avid plane enthusiasts out there, and like me many with a passing interest in aviation - so I thought I'd start a thread to that end - please post anything you find interesting about all things aviation, from experiences of flying, good websites, all the way to social outings...

Here's a few websites I use occasionally:

A good site for checking out seating on most aircraft - great if you are booking that long haul flight and don't want to be stuck in a nasty seat:

http://www.seatguru.com/

A nice site for airline reviews if you are trying to decide on who to fly with:
http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/seats.htm

Thanks to Rhino for this one - fabulous site for tracking flights around the world. I could spend hours on this one:

Have been trying to locate the link for this website - this is just the best!
http://www331.webtrak-lochard.com/webtrak/mel3

there is soooo much you can do on this, as well as live real time like flightradar24.com, you can look back over previous days (not sure how far back the archive goes) and speed it up.

If you are a bit canny, you can also change it to other airports too - just change the end of the link to (for example) "/bne3" will show Brisbane, or "/lax4" for Los Angeles, you get the picture....

Have fun!

Recent post from ILS reminded me about this website:
http://www.gcmap.com/

Check out the 'Great Circle Mapper' - it shows you the most efficient route around the globe.

Just plugged in MEL-SIN route and comes up with this...

Hey guys, not sure if this has been mentioned or not but for those who love plane spotting just thought I would let u guys know that the East-West runway at Melbourne airport is closed and no aircraft is landing or departing on that runway it has been that way since Mid January and will continue to mid March due to upgradeing of the runway so all planes have been takeing off and landing on the North-South runway the past 4 weeks and will continue to be like that for another 4 weeks regardless of what the weather is doing so even in strong cross winds as was the case on the weekend (Strong Westerly winds) They were still only useing the North-South runway so if you notice more traffic through that part of the sky thats the reason why
