Exactly 34mm here today. The area around here has been very parched in recent weeks, so this will be a big relief for the landscape, wildlife, farming etc.

We’re also solely reliant on tank water. We have about 60,000 capacity, was down to about two-thirds yesterday and now back to full and overflowing. Love summer rain, when it happens.

Saw an ABC report a few days ago about that poor bugger lost near Geehi, and it talked about searching along the Kosciuszko River!

Meanwhile, hope the Grampians are getting some of this? Surrounding towns on all sides have had 10mm plus, but DEWLP's temporary Mt Willian gauge is only showing about 5mm so far :?
There are a few amateur stations around Halls Gap which all showed 15-20mm so suspect it’s an exposure issue. It won’t have proper environment and set up and it a heavily treed and rugged environment which would be prone to problems.

I saw a photo of Mt William AWS today and the devastation is shocking. There is a remnant snow gum forest there which has been smashed again. They take decades to recover and in some cases don’t at all. On Kunanyi/Mt Wellington there are still large areas where former snow gum forests haven’t returned since 1967. This is the second remote snow gum forest to be impacted, following Mt Cole earlier in 2024.

Fantastic to see the falls across Victoria. No drought breaker but puts fires on hold for a few days and tops up tanks etc.

13mm here today to kick off our account for 2025.

We ended up with a bit under 850mm for 2024 here at my place, our lowest annual total for at least 5 years. Could’ve been a lot lower had it not been for two very good months in April and July.

Chilly morning here with just 7C. Quite cold air in the low levels behind the front, but it’s shallow with the uppers still hot with a solid inversion near 5,000 feet. That warm air aloft will quickly filter down again for a warm to hot end to the week.

Big system starting to show up in the progs from about Saturday. Major low and troughs. Waiting for it to settle a bit before getting too excited, but does look productive for rain and storms.

11mm to open our rainfall account in 2025. So welcome.

Of note was that Sunday had a max temp of 39.3c, Monday only 20.4c. Pretty decent cold change and coldest January max since 2021.

But when it comes to temp drops between days, Feb 1-2 2005 reigns supreme and is unlikely to ever be challenged (36.6c - 11.5c). I mark that system down as the absolute 'bomb'.

Incredible to think that was almost 20 years ago!

Haha! I remember that February 2005 day very well as the only summer day that I enjoyed in my fourteen years of living in Prahran. It poured and poured. Was absolutely wonderful. All the other summer days were just hot dry and desolate. ;) ;)

We had 2mm overnight so YTD is now 35mm.
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m

5.6C here this morning. That’s pretty chilly for January. I’d guess the historical January record at our location is around 3C comparing to official sites from nearby so definitely not a record, but still pretty notable. Stunning morning over the bay with clear water and lots of fish and one lone eagle ray :D

Guess new thread time. Tending hot and unstable. Could be quite a lot of storms, though currently tending to stay more over Tasmania and the ranges in Victoria.
