Series of quite strong fronts coming up, but tending to mainly impact Tasmania. Lots of showers, small hail and maybe the odd rumble in Tasmania with fronts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Will be snow on the mountains, though won’t stick for long with warm spring sun.

Inbetween mild to warm days. For the mainland, some showers near the ranges and coast, but not much will push inland.

Temps will start out hot, but slowly cool off. Very pleasant weekend which I’m sure people will be happy about as it splits the fronts :D

Nice band of showers here through last night. Squeezed out just shy of 4mm which keeps the month ticking along. Usual heavy falls out west.

Stronger front today later. Will see snow return to the peaks in Victoria and fall quite low here. Am off for a hike so will post snow photos later :D

Wintery one here today, and going to get cold tonight with slow below 500m. Showers are a bit sparse, but still getting a bit of hail.

Hiked up Collins Bonnet today which is 1260m on the far side of the Mt Wellington plateau. Remote spot and saw nobody all day apart from out group. Was graupel down to 600m and snow to about 900m. Settling in shady spots, but melting quickly in the sun. Here’s a few photos.

A bit off topic but Perths eastern burbs can expect 3 days of 38-39c next week…. I grew up in the eastern burbs of Perth and never experienced that in October… crazy stuff!

Nice frost here this morning with -0.3C. Looking at obs, this would have come close or maybe beaten the November record if it happened in five days time. Close but no cigar :P squeezed out another 1mm from showers yesterday but not the event for here in the channel. Better falls over the hills and around the very south.

Progs pushing through a couple more weak fronts then flatten out. Starting to look like the Cup Week is going to be really hot for Oz. Major heatwave event brewing. Hasn’t got much press yet, but October nationally has been really hot, probably destined to be second hottest in record. November looking at the outlooks is gonna follow.

Frost in the valley here this morning, got down to 2C on our hilltop. Almost as cold yesterday morning.

Squeezed out 2mm of rain for the dates and looking sparse ahead.

Blustery front here overnight, but basically dry. 1 or 2mm in the wettest spots but mostly zilch. Touch of snow on the mountain. Another front on Thursday which looks a bit better. Unfortunately not a heap of rain, so the dry 2024 will roll on for the southern mainland, and after a few good months looks like we will fall short of average down here.

Signs of a surge of heat for next weekend with a strong blustery front. Guess that’s the next thread but will wait to see how it settles down.
