Just got power back in Warragul at 8pm after it went out around 3am. No phone or internet all day either. Absolute carnage through here with trees down everywhere and wind still gusting. Crazy day!

Thought it was clearing this morning then it promptly decided to rain here basically all day. Showers so frequent that the rain had not stopped dripping from the trees before the next one had begun. All up closing in on 10mm since 9am. We are not far off our September average already :)

One stats from this event is that the 6 consecutive 10+mm days at Hobart is an equal record (also 28 December 1970-2 January 1971), so unprecedented for the time of year (so it’s a cool season record). Not out of the question that it will pass 10mm by 9am. Amazing system.

Btw so many damage reports coming in from costal parts. Minor to moderate flooding at Lakes Entrance, record high sea level today at Williamstown, massive erosion at Inverloch, Sandy Point, Bayside, Warrnambool plus many others.. Houses flooded, boat sheds washed away, roads collapsed. Fix up costs and need to put in new ramps, stairs, and coastal defences is going to cost a heap. Sea level rise which is now at 30cm and increasing rapidly is largely to blame for these rapidly increasing impacts.

We had one more snow flurry in the middle of the afternoon during one of those intense coldies that kept blowing through.
Still windy now and sitting on 3°.

Showers cleared overnight. Just shy of 11mm since 9am. Bummer that Hobart stalled on 8.4mm. Just 1.6mm from the first seven days of 10mm in a row. Guess will have to settle for the first six in a row outside of summer, and equal record.

Back in VIC also easing. Flooding last night in Lakes Entrance was the highest on record for a storm surge. Something like 5cm below the moderate flood level. Very lucky the lunar-solar tide wasn’t overly night.

Looks like a more normal spring pattern the week ahead, though some exceptional heat lurking not far north.

Looks like we got through relatively unscathed during Sunday night/Monday mornings storms. No damage to report at either property. :)

It was probably the wildest night I've ever experienced during our 8 years on the island. :sccary:

First dry 24 hours here in more than a week. Also suddenly quite mild with near 20C forecast today.

Going back to a more classical and progressive spring pattern for a week or so. New thread time. Gonna get quite warm before each front with unusual warmth over northern Australia getting drawn south.

Light frost here this morning. At least the wind has calmed down!

A couple of forecast models suggest a rain bearing system for Western and Inland Vic around Sept 13th. Let's hope that holds and it saves many of the winter crops which are on a knife-edge.

What a memorable event. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such prolonged and sustained high winds, maybe barring some of the worst of the east coast lows I saw growing up as a kid in Sale. 15mm for the dates.

The noise of that 124km/h squall that came through at 3am Monday morning was incredible, it pretty much simultaneously took out the power. We lost a couple of trees around our yard, was fully expecting to wake up to missing roof tiles and blown in windows. Two mass power and internet outages this year here, not ideal for those of us that work from home 😬
