Finally got some showers here overnight after days of dry westerlies. Mostly 4-10mm across the southeast. Icy as expected with snow falling to about 150m, and settling in the Huon and Derwent valley to around 300m. Will head out for a drive shortly to get some photos.
Down here in Howden dipped to 3.5C in heavy graupel showers, but not visible snow or sleet that I’ve seen. Generally need an 850T of about -6C for sea level snow, and we are currently sitting on about -5C. Its events like this which would have been a nice snowfall to sea level back in the 1950s but are now just a cold rain
Clearing slowly now, and will be some cracking frosts in sheltered areas the next couple of days.
Btw rain wise, facinating month. Some parts re likely to come in Decile 10 in Victoria and Tasmania, while other will be decile 2-4. The contrast between Avalon at 40mm and Ferny Creek at about 290mm is one of the greatest I’ve seen
Down here we’ve got similar contrasts between the southern parts of Kunanyi and the Derwent valley, with totals locally near 300mm dropping to about 50mm over just 50km.
