Lowest temperature in our house was 20.2C today, top temperature was 23.4C. Sons in shorts and bare chested tonight 🤣 Our indoor garden is going gang busters with pineapples, bananas, dragon fruit, vanilla and a try hard coconut palm (if we are successful will be the first in Tasmania).

0C at the top of the garden this morning, and around -3C in the horse paddock in the bottom.

We don’t have gas or a wood fire, just a single split system to heat a three bedroom plus two study house. Costs us about $20 a week total for heating. It’s all about the insulation. We’ve gone over the top with this place, but it’s easy to keep a house warm without fires if building standards are sufficient. Unfortunately Oz houses are often not much better than tents 😩

Btw the -0.2C on my AWS is the second coldest for winter. Impressive frost. Ice was about a cm deep on the horse trough. Feeling a bit like El Niño atm.

-1C this morning. Nice and crunchy out. Horse paddock looks like a ski resort 🤗

That’s the coldest for the year, though last year we saw -1.8C in August so not the coldest in very long. Nice day ahead.

-7.4° at at Trentham, -6° at Woodend, -5.6° at Kyneton, -4° at work in Macedon and -1.5° at my house in Mt Macedon. That's our first sub-zero for winter.

Can't agree about the split system. I was in a tiny holiday cottage at Bright last week. Small space, big split system. Was warm if you stood on the table but freezing at floor level. I know they are the future but it's a horrible way to heat. Nearly as unpleasant as gas ducted.

Ended up with -3.9c. Coldest since August 2014.

Split systems can start to struggle in sub-zero temps. Same with the cheap heat-pump hot water systems the State Govt is paying for....

Balmy -0.2 here.

Cracker of a day today.

Re heating: there's a reason why humans have used wood for heating for millenia, and why they still do.

We just need to do it sustainably

-5.0 for a minimum at my place in Woodend (elevated somewhat and facing east) , epic freeze as was below zero before 9pm . Second lowest temp here since we built then moved in late 2016.

Still plenty of frost in the shade despite fast warm up (currently 6.8).

Wonderful gas central heating set at just 19 came on a few times but not much as insulation is full on in all walls as well as roof. So not too dry inside and not cold at all.
