Bit of a warm up this week ahead of a weak trough Wednesday to Thursday. Looks like showers and some storms on the change. Not widespread falls, but could be locally moderate to heavier. Will provide gardens a bit of a drink ahead of a Christmas to New Year heatwave. Progs generally looking summery now.

Agree HB. I reckon the brief burst of heat will herald in the arrival of the moister atmosphere from the La Nina/IOD regions, mid January looks to be stormy and wet to me.

Quite a lot of storms back in SA the last 24 hours, now drifting slowly into Vic. Not big falls, but most areas should see some showers and the odd rumble. Warm two days coming up, locally hot.
Next weeks heat is really ramping up. Could well see five 40s in a row in the Mallee. Melbourne possible three 35C. Even down here in Tasmania, wouldn’t be surprised to see mid to high 30s one or two days. Nasty winds, particular western VIC and South Australia. Guess new thread pretty soon after this one.

Few showers and storm out there in the radar. Nice way to start the day.
Not so sure about down here in Howden. Storms will pop up over the ranges around mid arvo, but not a lot of steering. Generally a warm day.
Any rain we can get today is a bonus ahead of an increasing warm and then windy week. New thread for that one.

Some significant totals showing up in the northern burbs of Melbourne. Locally 30-50mm from southwest of Melton headed out towards Broadmeadows. The band there looks to be still building.
Most of Melbourne looks to be in a split in the band which is can happen when the steering is northwesterly but surface flow is southeasterly.

very impressive mammatus out there earlier, still some rumbling but yes it looks like its split around us, not a drop of rain with it either!
some pretty serious downdrafts and rain videos being posted on social media in cragieburn!

As it heads towards Lilydale, the rainfall strength appears to be weakening, not as ominous looking as it was.

seems to me that once this passes it will be hot and sunny again in the clear air behind it, I wonder what conditions are like for more to form as quite a few hours of daylight and heating yet.

Storms currently approaching from our west, but looks like we might pick the gap here:
James looks like more building to the west, Sheoaks just had 12mm in the last half hour.

Lots more building out west. At my local obs post up the hill, I had rotation overhead, torrential rain for 5 mins and hail

Big storm here at around 1.30-2.00. 20mm in about half an hour and very loud cracks of thunder.
Lots more activity building around us, but travelling to our south and north.
