Well a bit more interesting this evening - lightning and thunder on and off for the last hour and a half. About another 1.5mm to add to 2mm earlier today. Seems to be about it though.

Trigger has been lacking around the CBD but it is now on. Outflow and the change about to converge over inner NW suburbs it "could" get wild very very soon!!!

27mm here from two separate storms today. A 3rd round approaching now appears to have died on our doorstep.

Missed the first storm as we were down at the beach, so don’t know what the split of rain totals was. Bulk of the rain came from the 2nd storm, which was a ripper with many strobing cgs on approach and multiple gunshot flangs in the core.

Here are some pics, the first two are of the 2nd storm taken from Nilma, 1st is on approach and 2nd is the bubbling Cu on the backside that may have been trying to rotate, which is something I haven’t seen much of in this area. 3rd is the approaching storms on sunset with mammatus under the anvil:

Storm rapidly developing as it approaches here, just may get get a decent fall of rain. Only 1.8mm today so should pass that easily as the radar is showing red.

Getting a great display of heat lightning (I know some people don’t like that term but it applies here because I can see the lightning but not hear the thunder) to the northwest from my balcony in Box Hill. Lovely

I suppose this continued development just goes to show I should have stuck with my humidity rule - so long as it’s still humid, there’s still a chance.

Looks to me like it's lining Sale up for a direct hit now!

But it didn't LOL, a glancing blow as the bulk veered S/E to the right and exited over the 90 Mile Beach, and some also went to
to the N/E and we missed out, East Sale BOM 0.4mm today and home about 3mm.

Thousands of CG today over East Vic, still active in places. See a Melb/Sydney Virgin 737 @ 41,000ft
(as I type) enroute Sydney via BAIRNSDALE, to miss storm activity Vic & NSW I suppose.

Not much on the books tomorrow either.

Great sound and light show, but the bay is killing them

Beautiul photos Mike and Pengaz. It has been a very active evening here, which mostly kicked off just after 10pm. Loads of lightning and thunder. The heaviest stuff slid to the edge of where we are but still managed 8.8mm. Lightning still going on to our immediate west and east.

1.4mm here south of Hobart. Never looked like a day for us. Much heavier in the hills behind us with 10-20mm of heavy easterly drizzle.

Chance for a storm here mid arvo. For Victoria now clearing.

Those late storms were impressive. Friend in Upwey scored 27mm in quick time with 1cm hail. Late save from a dud out there

Inner Melb missed this one largely seems. Looked like those nocturnal storms may deliver rain but not to be.

Light show over the bay was pretty spectacular for awhile looking north and south with a few stunning crawlers observed.

Looking positive for yet another period of storms and rain for Vic from later next week with the remnants of the cyclone. Good times!

Latest forecast models have all downgraded next week as expected. I've written-off January as significantly below average rainfall again.

Explosive growth from 830 or so onwards last night and pretty good thunder and lightning but only 0.7mm here from some enormous drops (no doubt someone close got heaps more) and that total includes heavy fog this morning.
