1mm in the gauge this morning. Been a showery morning with another ~3mm since 9am.

Looks like another long winter ahead for Melbourne :(

We're certainly in interesting times. In the meantime, 6.8mm here today. Was quite surprised. I was only expecting about a mm, but a decent line of showers and drizzle set itself up in the right spot to make a gloomy, wet day.

Our first proper winters day up here for the month. Max of 8.1C, fog all day and heavy showers with just over 12mm so far. MTD is about 110mm so healthy but well short of our average of 140mm (May is our wettest month on average).

Might pick up a few more mm’s before it clears overnight.

A heavy shower arrived late last night, took us to 3.75mm for this event, just enough to keep the top inch of the soil moist after an 8 day pre-winter "drought".

Funny day today, the coldest in the sequence, 14.5C, but with full sunshine and dead calm, felt quite mild. Didnt notice any snow up on the ranges like we had 10 days back.

......not looking forward to what I expect will be late-clearing frosts arriving next week :(

Freezing day up here 8-) 7.5C for a max, but most the time sat between 6 and 7C. Stiff southerly breeze really made it feel icy cold.

14.4mm in the gauge so finished month on about 110mm. That’s about 30mm off average here.

Hoping for a couple of good frosts, starting Saturday evening.

Cold, gloomy day here too. We had a brief max of 9.8c. Currently 6.9c. A bit of drizzle earlier in the day, with 0.2mm, but 107.6mm for the month. A few cold nights ahead!

The bom computer has lost the plot for Mount Dandenong for Monday morning. There is no way it is going to get anywhere near -5 there. I've been keeping a close eye on forecasts from bom for minimum temperatures recently, and it's evident their computer models are still using a one size fits all approach, not taking into consideration elevation for example.

Long way to go it seems. I just wish they would use SOME people interaction.

I wish :o The uppers are quite mild on Monday morning so wouldn’t be surprised if the Nongs are quite mild compared to the flats.

Chilly day up here. Max of 7.1C. Bit of sun and light winds meant it was quite pleasant outside. Already down to 4C here, so should see a frost by morning.

Forecast of -1 for Cranbourne. Should achieve it easily. Will be colder in the local micro climate valleys

Coldest May morning in Melbourne for 71 years, and extra impressive given the urban heat island effect would be significantly greater than when the previous record was set.

Absolutely bitter night here with a stiff south-easterly accompanying low single figure temps - quite unusual for us to have the wind and cold temps, except during snow-bearing systems. No record though that I'm aware of - just bloody cold!

Was an interesting night last night, breeze and cloud kept up till 7am. We dropped to 1.8 by 7am, then the wind went calm. By 721 we were -1.7 and stayed below freezing for an hour with some foggy cloud around. Little or no frost obvious.

I think we might be below freezing for a fair bit longer tonight.

Boy it was cold this morning :o :o and i think tonight will be the same if not colder in some spots :o

Long cold miserable winter ahead agree (with no escape) still got over 4 months of winter to come :( :(

Might be a nice inland rain event mid week mostly NSW but hopefully another 5 to 10mm for N and NW Vic along the murray.

Big front or cut off for next weekend into early following week something to watch

Nice to see WA doing well hopefully big crop season over there for the wheatbelt as think SA and Vic crops might struggle fail this winter :( :(

June this week dam time is flying
Bring on the heat and stroms

Heavy frosts here for the past two mornings.
We need decent follow up rain but I doubt we will see much. Incidentally, May rainfall has been bang-on average.

Canterbury region of Sth Island NZ on the other hand...

Bit of frost here this morning with a min of 3.5C. First proper frost for the year.

That min at Olympic park was quite an anomaly. Bit odd actually. It’s. Cooler site which is probably a bit of a factor.

Cold agin tonight though not quite as cold.

Some rain in the week head with a broad slow trough.

Btw crazy system in NZ. Metres of snow in east facing mountains and foot of rain on the flats :o

Stayed cloudy here for much of the night as well, with the temp hovering around 5c before dropping to 1.8c at about 4am once the cloud cleared. Definitely on track for a colder evening today - currently 7c and falling quickly. The minimum will depend on when the northerly wind kicks in.

Coldest May morning in about 70 years in the CBD this morning, from what i could find.

Love it, when it's heat related it's a record and the new norm apparently. When it's a cold record, it's an anomaly haha. The last 20 years of the previous Melbourne site near Carlton were an anomaly thanks to the absence of southerly winds. That site was consistently the warmest in the state, even warmer than Mildura in some cases ,especially in winter.

Not quite as cold here compared to Melbourne (unusual) at 3.5c, already down to 5.2c at 8.20 this evening.
