Multiple sites in NSW look like they will break the state record high minimum :o Also two sites are currently sat above the Australian record high minimum (35.5 21 January 2003 Wittenoom) :o Incredible numbers....

Noona so far is the highest min at 35.9 from waht I see. They were still 40.0 at 1am. :o :o

I think I've only seen temps like that at that time of night in places like Baghdad.

Looks like at least 5 sites that have broken the all-time highest minimum record for NSW and 2 which are now the proud owner of Australia's highest ever minimum temperature record...

Lots of records broken in NSW :( BoM no doubt will verify etc as the day goes on.

We just got a shower of big drops and a rumble. Radar looks somewhat interesting with a broad area of convergence draped through central Vic to the Wimmera. Bit puzzling why models are so sparse on rainfall with this and the high surface dewpoints :?:

Exactly the same here - trying hard to be a proper thundery downpour, but not quite getting there. Quite a bit of thunder now.

Last seven days have been pretty bad up here.
39,43.6,42.9,40.7,35.8,40.7.34.7. The forecast for next week is once again above 35 degrees all week (so far). A brutal January rolls on.

18Z GFS now showing 5-15mm across central areas next few hours. I never much trust GFS at short range (or long range :D ) but maybe something will come of those thunderstorms currently going up :?:

Getting rumbles here now.

I think if you got a direct hit, those numbers are possible - just watched a storm slide south of here and the rain curtain 'blacked out' the hills for a few minutes, so I expect that area would have got 5 mm at least.

Rain & thunder here in Sunshine West. Looks like home is right in the firing line too. Won't be much but I'll take anything at this stage. :D

Heavy rain and thunder here but only lasted about five minutes. 1.5mm in the gauge. That appears to mark the wind change, though still northerlies to our west so instability will continue for a while. DP is up to 18C.

Feels like ages since we last had proper rain like that, even if it only last minutes :o

Getting rumbles from the new band inbound. Looks like we will either get the fat top end or watch it slide just south of us :?: This dropped a quick couple of mms at Laverton which is approaching 5mm now.

More revolting heat today. 35c and cloudy.

Everyone has had enough and wants out of this town. And this time next week looks terrible. At least EC has indications of decent rain around January 27.

GFS has 850Ts approaching 30C and surface temperatures in the 45-48C range for northern areas. Hopefully a stray run, but pretty clear more 40s across the north and probably mid 40s northwest. Hopefully nothing higher :(

How’s the trees holding up there? I’ve noticed a sharp increase in stress here the last week. Will be a lot of tree death here if we don’t break this pattern soon. This follows lots of deaths last summer in that flash drought.

I am watering my large black woods again to prevent them from dying. The flash drought last summer killed one and it cost me $2K to have safely removed. I think Bendigo has a lot of Ironbark trees which are very drought tolerant.

Got to 33c before the trough loitered nearby. Back to 25c with a 17c DP. There has been quite a few CG's around the state, no doubt zapping a few trees. Sometime a tree can smoulder internally until the next decent rain which could be an issue for late next week when the north westerly gets going.

Today's 0.2mm so far makes it 2mm for the month now.

Lets hope this run does't to fruition or places like Adelaide could be hitting close to 49C and most areas of Melbourne 47C...GFS has been over exaggerating the heatwaves lately though by 1-2C this far out so hopefully this is the case again...

Native trees are holding up really well. The 75mm in Mid-Dec helped! Everything else is cooking or cooked.

Trough is stationary out to our SW. Hurry up!
