Blustery spring fronts with showers: September 5-10

Quick sequence of spring fronts with warm, cool, warm, cool. Bands of showers on each of the front and a bit of cold air, though overall nothing that remarkable. Will be a bit of wind, blustery about the ranges and exposed coasts.

Front for Friday probably looks the best for rain, with moderate perhaps locally heavy over parts of TAS with lighter falls through Victoria. Ahead of could get close to 30C in northern Victoria.

Warm windy morning here. No rain but a bit out west and north.

Nice to see a bit of rain about Victoria and some early morning thunderstorms. Didn’t really anticipate that, though I didn’t look to closely last night.

Gale force winds again here overnight. This round was actually worse than Monday's event, and actually felt like a cyclone at times. Only 0.8mm in the gauge.

Expecting the wind to reduce a bit today before firing back up again tonight, and hoping that we do a bit better for rainfall on the next front.

Overall, this pattern has been tricky for Vic, with fronts just not getting far enough north to deliver good rainfall, but still resulting in big wind events. September is a transition month, so it will be interesting to see how the rest of the month plays out.

Good to see some rain yesterday in Victoria, but like WTH with the temperatures. 23C around parts of Melbourne at am this morning. That’s the average day time temperature for December and here we are one week past winter and it that number in the middle of the night. Guess will be interesting to see what happens if the sun comes out today as the the earliest 30C on record must be a chance :o

TAS was really warm yesterday but today we are under the rainband. Wet muggy day ahead. Clears or mostly clears for the weekend.

It sure feels like summer this morning. The temp reached 21.5c overnight and currently just under 20c now.

Surprisingly, the wind wasn't too bad here, unlike the previous night. Still blustery, but it looks like it has been windier across Melbourne than here, which is rare with a northerly.

Yeah that early AM temp spike is nuts.

This rain band has been a giver for us so far with about 10mm falling since it started about 6 and still delivering moderate rain presently.

It got very windy from the NW again yesterday, but this time warm 28C. then it cooled gradually and very slowly morphed into light steady spring rain for 6 hours. I got 12.5mm from it, a mate is out cutting silage already!

Cool and dry today. But no sign of decent rain in the forecast now. Disappointed.

Bit slow on the reports with a lot on. Weathers been well pretty boring tbh. Ended on 5mm for Friday and now got the odd shower here today. Showers are quite lumpy so wouldn’t rule out a rumble. Bit of wind, but basically just uneventful spring weather. It’s slightly on the cool side so a dusting on the mountain with each front, but warm sun inbetween is pretty quickly melting it.

Struggling to see much significant in the week ahead. Some showers coastal and mountain parts of Victoria, and usually showery frontal systems for Tasmania so 25mm plus in Queenstown and 1mm in Orford. You can then just pick where you sit on the gradient to get your total ;)

Would be pretty worried that Victoria is headed for another dry month, but maybe something will fire up in the last week of the month. Particularly western areas are tracking pretty similar to some of the worst drought years atm :( La Niña starting to look more likely but the IOD isn’t playing ball with neutral or perhaps even positive values. That combo isnt good for the mainland southeast with 2008/9 and 1938/39 falling into that category, though really small sample size so can’t be too sure.

Few nights camped out in the lounge due to many gum trees,
Relieved that we didn’t get big winds like we’ve seen years prior.
One morning that very odd storm at 6.45am,
Another morning with 21.6c followed by 8.6 next day…

Cracking front for Sunday. Heavy rain in a couple of spells, small hail and cracking squalls. Just on 8mm. We’ve already cracked out monthly average so that’s three in a row :D The garden is looking a treat, and dams and tanks full. More snow on the mountain.

Next front coming through on Wednesday with quite a strong rainband but it will thin as it moves into eastern Tasmania and Victoria. A chance for a rumble as it pushes through during the arvo.

Getting very dry here. Where's the rain?

Some cold outbreaks likely in the next 10 days, but I can't see much rain in the mix.

Decent outbreak of storms for central and north central Victoria today. Currently looks to be fire around 1-2pm on the front. Not particularly severe looking at diagnostics but first fall for some areas for a while. Looks like a miss for the northwest and very near coastal strip.

Down here in Tas a laid back rainband. Not a lot in it but should be a top up.

Significant cold outbreak for the weekend, but not a lot of rain in it. Snow levels near sea level in Tasmania, while looks to drop to about the top of the Dandenongs in Victoria.

Just got hit with a decent storm. Small pea sized hail. No golf balls this time around.

Wow those photos are crazy. Good to see the rain, though. Only a few light showers down here, with the rainband fading a bit.

Clearer tomorrow then next front for Friday. The air on Saturday is seriously cold, probably best shot of cold air for at least three years. Sea level snow likely in parts of TAS, and likely for the usual spots in Victoria such Trentham, Macedon, Otways and maybe the Nongs. Not heavy falls, but some.

Next week then looks quite wild. Another burst of westerly gales.

That hail in Castlemaine looks incredible. We were hit with large hail here too, which may have even been the same storm, but nothing on that level.

It was a very active day here yesterday, with several afternoon storms, including hail, very heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. This was then followed by a few hours of heavy rain in the evening. All of this delivered 33mm, so a good boost to the month's total.

Hoping next week doesn't turn out to be as windy as models are currently suggesting. It has been great having the calmer weather. At this stage, Wednesday/Thursday look to be the worst of the gales, but will see as we get closer.
