Earthquake - Gippsland 22/11/21

Post by Petros »

Wow, first we shook, then came a lengthy deep rumble and the shakes became lengthy waves.

Sounds like it was 5.8 mag, centred up near Woods Pt. No perceptable aftershocks here, but heard they are still currently happening up at Licola.

That was insane. On the phone to my boss when it hit. Felt here in the Dandenongs about 1 second before it reached Brighton. I'm like I think we are having an earthquake :?

Lasted close to 20 seconds here. Kept expecting it to stop, and it didn't...

Reports of damaging coming in. Shallow so could be quite a lot :o

Would not want it to have been any stronger. Whole house was moving and the steel frame creeking.

It woke me up from my lockdown sleep in here in East Warburton and felt pretty strong here, no damage done, but wow this steel frame house really shook.

Further up the road.

All miners in the gold mine at Woods Point have been reported to be safe and are now back on the surface as a precaution.

Also someone has said the people at the A1 mine at Gaffney's Creek are safe, which is really close to the epicentre.

I was actually about to leave the house for a dental appointment when it struck here in Burnside Heights. 15 minutes later in the dental chair would have been interesting.

Our house is on a slab so it felt like being in a boat on rough seas, even the pendant lights were swinging.

Yep it was a ripper, lasted a good 45 secs or so here. Was a slow build up into some larger shakes before slowly tapering back down. Enough to get our older house creaking and rocking to make us run outside.

The 2012 5.2M earthquake in Moe felt stronger IMO (was living in Traralgon at the time), purely because I was closer to epicentre. Must have been a decent shake up in Licola and Mansfield!

Not too many rooms don’t have cracked plaster here,
So I wasn’t imagining the amount the house was moving,
Prior to making my world record sprint outside..
