Had a good mix today - showers, sleet and hail. Also saw a few flakes mixed in with a heavy shower late this afternoon, but wouldn't count that as snow by any stretch!

12mm all up. We reached a max of 8.5c. Currently 3.5c with the wind chill mostly running below 0. House is nice and warm though, with the wood heater cranked up!

Wood heater fired up here. That crazy wind storm dropped about ten years of fire wood here, so no shortage for a while :o

Btw another big surge on the coast. Flooding tonight at Lakes Entrance and again around the bay. That is the second in a week. Will go substantially higher on the weekend, with current guidance showing another 10-20cm possible. That will put the main street at Lake Entrance under water if it happens.

Meanwhile great blizzard in the alps, but the poor resorts are all locked down :(

King Island... useless at a time like this, blocking any precipitation from getting here. Even the western suburbs that are usually bone dry are getting frequent showers. 🤣🤣

No snow for me today even though it was cold enough.
It is annoying to know that it is snowing again along the GDR (towns like Jindabyne, Oberon, Yetholme and Guyra) in NSW for the second time this week but we miss out in VIctoria.

My max today was 4.1C but was down to 1.7C by the afternoon. 0.3C now
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m

While it hasn't accumulated to a staggering amount of rain, the rain showers keep rolling in here on the Western side of the bay, in Truganina.

Clear skies so far tonight, temp down to 1.9 at 3.30am. At this rate we might even get a frost in the morning, unless it clouds over.

Cerberus down the road is at 10.0 at the moment

Dipped to 3.0C here overnight in a decent hail shower. Didn’t spot any sleet or snow, but was close. 12mm in the gauge. Month is ticking along nicely. Mtd is 80mm, and 60mm from this event. Should get to our average of 109mm.

Couple of days break now ahead of a solid system for the weekend.

A minimum of 0.9 here. Ended up being the coldest part of Melbourne, along with Coldstream.

A nice covering of not just frost, but ice on cars due to last night's rain.

Starting to cloud over now. Top of 11 forecast

8mm over the past couple of days. 65mm MTD, so already above our average rainfall for July. Crops in most parts of Vic are doing well now:

Signing off for this one with another 7.5mm, making 41mm for the dates. Not as much as wet old Bendigo, but that would be aiming too high :).

Now, let's see what the next system has in store. Not much of a wait!

Off topic but the scenes coming out of China's flood situation are horrendous. In Zhengzhou which gets about as much rain as Melbourne annually 200mm fell in one hour and 450 in 24 hours.

Hobart continues to be a dry and a few drops towards what is going to be a terrible month total. Can’t wait to retire and move to the northwest coast to get away from the dry weather.

They get that much during their wet/monsoon season though, so I’m sure they get a far higher frequency of those types of tropical-influenced downpours than Melbourne does.

I used to live in Hong Kong and when the ITCZ crept up during summer the downpours had to be seen to be believed, especially when up to that point you’d lived in “30mm in a day is record-breaking rainfall” Melbourne. The sheer amount of water that comes bucketing out of the sky in monsoon-influenced areas is hard to imagine if you haven’t experienced it, but I recall several days in HK where daily totals of several hundred mms were recorded.
