Post by Harley34 »

Nice system on the maps for mid nxt week after a few days of clear weather. Looks like good falls for Melb and many parts of the State/SE...

Looks like another 10-15mm system for us. Sadly much of NW Vic looks like missing out again. Really dry there at present. Drought-like.

Btw, light frost with a Minimum of 1c this morning.

And our first ice on the car windows event for this winter season might happen here tomorrow morning:

The current synoptics looking more typical of late May IMO after the last rain event had high pressure below NZ.

This winter will be a cold one, which wont surprise those amongst us who follow the sunspot cycles, great for the dams associated with Tas/Vic/NSW hydro power generation schemes. .....feel sorry for the tormented Melbourne FC footy supporters (torn between hitting the slopes or cheering the Dees).

Quite a mild one up here today with a max of 13C. We’ve popped above the inversion here with DP jumping around 0 to -10C atm, so could well see some frost in pockets if the wind stays down. Quite mild still, but such dry air should win out eventually.

Might be a half decent cold outbreak next week. Not particularly wet, though.

Crazy temperatures contrasts across the Nongs this morning. Warmest I’ve spotted is 13C on the hill tops around Upwey (about 250m) while it’s -2 to -4C on the flats near Monbulk. We’ve got a white frost on bottom half of our block and 10C at the top, separated by 40m of elevation.

Weird temps around the Macedon Ranges as well with inversions taking place. Currently 10c here. But at 200m elevation, it’s around 2-4c, sub-zero at 600m and then above 7c at around 800m. It did get down to 2.3c here overnight, but the temp was really jumping around between 1am and 4am.

Hobart forecast 20 c today and sunny, basically going to stay like that until Wednesday. Tuesday peaking at another 20 .
Certainly not a Wintery feeling in sight.
Maybe another milestone for warmest May average is still in with a very good chance.

-3.1 at 230am here. Coldest May morning since I have lived here (only 5th May) beating yesterdays -2.0 that was the previous record. Back to 3.3 now after a high of 14.5

Glorious day yesterday in the Nongs. Perfect for a bit of wood chopping and lawn cutting. Things up here look treat with 600mm YTD.

Some amazing temperature gradients around here yesterday. Went for a drive out to Launching Place to pick up a new goose :D Started at 11C at our place and dropped monotonically to 2C with a white frost at Monbulk. Driving through the Yarra Valley was -2 to -3C with ice on the puddles. The min at Coldstream of -3.7C is a new May record though station is fairly new and the previous record of -3.2C was very soft (there’s a -3.3C in April).

A couple of photos from the drive :D taken round 8am.

Looks like a mild to warm one ahead today.

Hopefully the system this week tops those numbers a bit. Looks quite good for north facing areas of Vic and Tas in particular.

Very mild one up here today. Max of 14.8C. Tomorrow looks similar.

Decent rainband for Tuesday. Could be moderate falls on the northern slopes and potentially quite heavy in the northeast. Be the first proper system in the north for a while.

The closer the system gets it’s going to be a minor blip and the high system dominance takes over again for at this time next week or beyond. Will the blocking highs be the story once again this winter? I guess time will tell 🌞

BOM saying 20-25mm for us; big upgrade and icing on the cake to a good May if we get even half that.

Surprisingly, Ballarat is down for a somewhat less at 15-20mm. I usually expect us to do worse than Ballarat in these setups, as we get rain-shadowed by the Divide.

Warm and windy up here. Dogs bed has been blowing around the yard :D

Looks quite good for the north today, though not so great for the south. The system is fading so upslide is weakening. Thinking perhaps 10mm here. Should be solid falls for those on the north side of the divide.

Showery couple of days to follow then more big highs
