A strong autumn front followed by showers: April 20-

Post by hillybilly »

Strong front showing up for the week ahead, moving through on Tuesday. This one’s got some significant cold air for mid autumn with 850Ts dropping to around -2 to -3C.

The link to the tropics is weak, so won’t be a big rain producer, but will produce lots of showers. Expect lots of coldies, with rumbles and small hail possible behind the change. Snow in the alps, which should accumulate at the more southern spots.

The swly to wstly stream stays with us for about a week, so will stay cold and damp (particularly the south). Month’s rainfall is tracking pretty ordinary so need this one to deliver something after a lean autumn for many.

0.4mm in the gauge this morning from a bit of drizzle and fog. Nice autumn day ahead.

Front for tomorrow still looks good. Nice shot of cold air. Will usher in a cool to cold week.

Looking forward to 7mm rain as predicted by the BOM for Sale region. Jeez we need it.

Everyone around here is expecting a cold long bleak winter. Funny how collective mentality can sometimes align, given all the different reasoning/indicators that our farmers find that work for them. Time will tell.

Yep, has been a pretty miserable month for those wanting rain. Just one big dry cold outbreak which dumped near the exposed coast and downstream from the warm Port Phillip Bay, but did very little elsewhere.

Front looks quite good on radar, though link to tropics is weak. Progs pretty much stuck on 5-20mm south and 1-10mm north. It stays cool with some showers til about this time next week, so should be locally 25mm plus in total.

Hope those predictions of a long bleak winter are correct. Guess it’s all relative but last years was the best I’ve seen here, but it has nothing on the cracking winters back in the 1950s or 1960s. I’d like one of those winters please :D

Cold and wet arvo here. 14mm in the gauge and now 122mm MTD. We are now above average, so three in four months. We missed the best of it with 15-20mm to my south and north.

Northeast burbs up to Eildon done pretty well. Odd fall around 25mm. Otherwise thins as you go north and west.

Break day tomorrow then another front for Thursday.

Hi from Hobart, received around 2mm or so of rain and plenty of blustery wind yesterday. Clear sky’s after 9:00 pm last night and we currently have 2 degrees outside. I’m sending the cat out to check for frost. Going to be some fun roads to work this morning.

6mm here, and nudging a frost this morning. Still very cold - haven't seen double figures yet. MTD 28mm so a little lean after a good March.

Cold foggy then cloudy one up here. Not quite a frost, owing to the fog. Min of 2.8 up to 10.8C this arvo. 13.8mm in the gauge.

Weak front for tomorrow might drop a shower or two, including north of the divide.

Here’s a couple of photos from the yard this morning :D Stunning light with a shallow fog rolling over the hill tops.

Cool 11C here today with just shy of a mm. Next weak front in bound for tomorrow. Not a lot in it, just light showers.

Saturday’s front looks wetter.

May is gonna start warm :o

Drizzly and fog night here with just on 3mm in the gauge. This damp nw to sw stream continues and will push showers inland into Saturday. Mostly light, though expecting perhaps 10-20mm here, and similar well situated spots.

Btw that stubborn band of showers near Inverloch has been quite a dumper. Spot falls over 30mm so far and still going. Lucky for them :)
