Bit of an inbetween event which might surprise. Winds have now gone northerly ahead of a trough that will move across Victoria on Thursday and Friday. The air is quite hot initially with 850Ts spiking into the low 20s so around 40C in the northwest. The system is tapping a strong feed of tropical moisture with precipitable water values rising to near 50mm later on Thursday so a deep tropical infeed.
There will be a band of rain following the trough, though the forcing isn’t great. Progs showing mostly 5-15mm, though they have been toying with heavier falls. Currently looks like peaking near central into the northeast.
Sticky 26C in FC yesterday. Some nice Cu bubbling overhead.
Another warm to hot one today followed by a rainband of sorts. Progs jumping around but still looks to peak around central. Not really looking thundery, but rather mainly post trough stratiform rain. Is possible for some embed rumbles and stray cells later this arvo.
The rain overnight was somewhat lighter and patchier here than others areas, so only 1.8mm in the gauge this morning. We've had a little bit of light drizzle this morning, but nothing to make much difference. A coolish weekend ahead, but then it looks like a rather hot week coming up next week, especially as we head towards next weekend. We're sitting on just over 11mm MTD and at this stage, it's looking mostly dry for the rest of the month. Hope that somehow changes, but at the moment, the pattern suggests a period of high pressure dominance.
5.4mm. Getting the odd shower this morning so might yet scrape 6mm for the event
Warm to hot week ahead. Pattern shift with lots of rain on the Queensland coast and a block with northeasterly flow for us. Phasing is unfortunate with the tropical low destined to stay marooned over inland SA and decay. Some solid falls through the outback, with many areas getting a fair part of their annual average the past few days. Probably the most impressive is ERNABELLA with near 150mm. Must be some decent runoff happening in the steams up there.
Finally!!!! Summer is here. A bit late but at least the sting in the heat is starting to taper off a bit... just a bit. In my opinion, the sun in mid to late February starts to be a little more bearable as autumn comes knocking...
Forecasts currently reads like Darwin in the dry No need to check out the numbers as they barely budge. Perhaps a tiny chance of something decent on Saturday. Not sure what the new thread should be called....
