Even allowing for the heat island effect, 41 for Hobart is a bloody joke and no ones laughing.

Interesting bit of activity on the radar in Melbourne. That will bake the Friday commute fun.

43c atm. Spare a thought for Kyabram and Shepparton which have both hit 46c. A Simpson Desert special today.

New records probably.

Bit of cloud building now. It's taking the edge off. Some cells moving through metro areas, but fast moving

Yep. just got a brief downpour in Elwood. Huge drops too. Could be a sign of what to expect tomorrow once the trough hits central.

Deniliquin has just equaled its hot temp record at the current site (46.6c). That site started in 1997. There was a questionable 49.6c in January 1878, although a 47.2c in 1897 might be valid.

We had a thundery shower here and now its back to sunny.
Top of 35.8C until the cloud came in.
Second hottest day of summer after 20/12 which was 36.3C.

So, i take it the first rain tonight or tomorrow will be dusty/muddy like the other week? Ive got it diverted away from my tanks as we already still have cloudy drinking water and i dont want it to get worse.
It feels very odd to have the spouting diverted to waste at this time of the year.
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m

Back to sunny here. The temperature dropped 10 degrees in about 15 minutes under that convective shower, dew point shot up to 20.5 though! :-o

Concerns also for the Victoria energy grid this afternoon and evening, with load shedding possible. To make matters worse, strong winds have knocked down several transmission lines in the west near Cressy that feed from South Australia into Victoria.

Short storm here. Here is the rundown:

- 60km/h plus wind (weather station takes about 30 minutes to update wind records)

- 0.8mm rain

- temp was 42, now 28 :D

- one dirty car, again

I noted the same. With a complicated system such as this one where maybe just a kilometre or two could make a big difference in rainfall they will have the armchair forecasters saying loudly they got it wrong,

Full Ballarat forecast and others still not up at 4.51pm - some sort of record, in recent years anyway. Best they're late and accurate I guess.

Edit - and there it is. Phew!

Hhmmm, not overly convinced for tomorrow. Looks like your typical trough with a rain band and hit and miss storms.

Up to 40.3c here today and quite windy for most of it. Currently 39.3c and a DP of 19.6c, which certainly feels muggy.

Had a very brief shower a bit earlier with some big drops, but not quite enough to register in the gauge.

Not sure what to expect here tomorrow, as the heaviest stuff may well end up hit and miss. Will be a classic case of watching to see what unfolds on the radar.

Putrid day out there. Since when do you have 43C, dumping rainstorm then, 40C in Melbourne? This is just getting silly TBH. In the not seen before stakes, today is the first day on which Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart have all reached 40C. It would have also been a record hot day in Canberra (if not for the heatwave a couple of weeks back).

Progs starting to get jump. Heavy falls west, but can't agree on central and east. Feels like we could get 5 or 50mm. This is the pattern showing up back in SA with big falls next to near zero falls :?
