Hi everyone both the ACCESS and GFS models are suggesting significant rain from Wednesday onwards in Tasmania. These east Coast low set ups can often give us magnificent floods thundering through Launceston's Cataract Gorge.

Heavy Rain throughout Tassie today. 92 mm in St Helens including 67 mm in one hour. There is flooding in the town and evacuation of the hospital. 40 mm in Launceston our heaviest fall for over a year. The South East is now copping it with Hobart now starting to accumulate. Should continue through to the morning.

A maximum of 17 degrees in Launceston today - a beautiful day. Rain on the way starting tomorrow from a slow moving LOW moving through the Bight throwing out weak fronts for the remainder of the week.

From my BIL who lives in Ranelagh near Huonville today
Whoooeee !
Wet and wild here since last night.
Freezing. Gale force winds
Snow all around on ridge tops.
The first really big dump for this year which in its self is quite unusual.

Hi Dave,

Nice to see you around! Looks like your going to enjoy the next eleventy hundred fronts coming through on the westerly belt. Should spark some good old fashioned flood warnings and perhaps a big dump of snow on the mountains.

The winter westerly has been quite persistent the past few weeks!

Suspect Launny to get about 100mm for the sequence. 50cm of snow on the mountains is not out of the question.

Steady Rainfall in the North West at the moment but patchy in the central north. "Rain Heavy at Times" forecast for the north on Friday.

This event has been a fizzer so far. Despite forecasts of rain yesterday, overnight and today, little has fallen. No rain at all in the last 24 hours in Launceston.

Looks like the low has barrelled the moisture a little further NE so that cloudband has stayed on the mainland through NSW.

I think as convection fires on the mainland today it will filter down in the northerly flow into the northern parts of TAS later as rain areas with heavy falls about the North Esk catchment.

Local thunderstorms overnight and tomorrow.

Still looking at 30-50mm for the sequence down there.

Right on the money Karl. Severe Thunderstorm warning issued - very unusual in Tassie. Storm cells crossing the north coast now.
