Got woken up by a graupel or snow shower here at 5am. Unfortunately it had stopped before I looked outside, so not sure which to put down in my weather log. Temperature of 2.3C atm, but stream too southerly for us for proper showers. Looks better for Gordon and Macedon.
Noticed they were talking up the upcoming fire season already today in the news as well, just like they've been doing for the past 25 years. Although I'd agree awareness is definitely good in that field.
Hard to believe from a southern Vic perspective, but at the end of July southern Australia was tracking driest year on record, and Australia was tracking hottest days on record year to date. Precursors don’t come much more stark :?

A few showers overnight, bringing the event total to 9mm. The temp was down to 1.9c, so it's quite possible that some sleet or snow landed as well but I wasn't awake to see. Cloudy and 6c currently.

Nice white frost in FC this morning with a min of 1C. Car was well covered and took a whole bucket to defrost :)

Looks like a couple of nice days.

BTW here's an early look at the winter rainfall. Vic has been lucky :D The luck looks like continuing next week with showery conditions on and off. In FC we've had above average rainfall (by a tad) in May, June, July and August. Interesting that this has happened for us in 2012, 2016 and now 2019 despite the pretty mixed rainfall overall.

New 3 monthly prediction is out, and interesting to note that it looks like more of the same, following on from Hillybilly's map above.

Most of Australia is predicted to have a warmer and drier spring, but Tasmania and far south Victoria looks to be just on average.

-0.2 this morning with clear skies until 9am when some fog moved in. All but burned off now, in time for a stunning day

Coldest winter morning here with 1.4c, no frost though due to a slight breeze. Plenty of frost down in the valley and in B.Marsh town center.

Just back from several days in NSW to find 6.5m from Wednesday/Thursday. Looks like that'll round out our August at 103mm - 13mm more than average. Meanwhile, our August temps are 0.5C below average for minimums, and 1.2C below for maximums, so the cold hasn't just been my imagination :)!

For winter as a whole, we've recorded 306mm, well above our 260mm average.

Good snowpack in the Snowys and Vic Alps (the pic is Rocky Valley Dam and surrounds on the way home today).

However country dries off dramatically from north of the Snowys and right across the Blue Mtns into the Central West. Not good to see so little green and almost-dry streams at the end of August! Heavy rain falling in Sydney yesterday and today, although a lot of the aforementioned country has missed it.

2C to 11C for us today. Felt mild in the sun this arvo. Always nice to get a bit of spring sunshine after decent rain. Hoping we get a proper spring this year with the works, rather than one of those winter to summer jumps.

Next week looks like showers and sun. Could be quite wintery late in the week. Sunday looks somewhat interesting with quite unstable conditions. Could well get a rumble :D

New thread time ;)

Finished the month above average on 80mm. We had 22 days of rain, so quite a wet month and not surprising given the negative SAM. Our average maximum for this month was 11.4c and the average minimum 4.2c. Cool mornings the past 7 days, which averaged 2.6c. Plus one snow day earlier in the month! :)

90.8mm for me this month. Above average, mainly thanks to the 60mm or so we had in the second week of the month. What a stunning day today. Chilly start at 1.2 degrees with a slight frost.
