Hot and windy ahead of a strong front: Feb 12-

33C with high humidity. Absolute stinker for southern TAS. Showers pretty sparse with the change and tbh not expecting any here, but maybe I’ll be surprised. Some ok falls on the northern tiers of Tasmania, but unfortunately missed the west coast fires so far :( Some heavy showers on the Overland ...

Hot and windy ahead of a strong front: Feb 12-

Exceptional humidity down here today. Our nearest station at Dennes Point touched 18.7C and the Hobart Ap AWS touched 19.7C. We live on shallow bay with locally warmer SSTs and it peaked at 19.9C. All those numbers are at February records give or take. Maria and Tasman Island also touch and go for ...

Hot and windy ahead of a strong front: Feb 12-

Couple of hot and windy ones ahead of a strong front thursday PM then much colder air for the weekend. Some showers and storms on the front, mostly impacting the eastern half of Victoria and western Tasmania then lots of westerly and southwesterly showers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Expecting ...

Long lived trough with possible showers: Feb 7-

4mm here yesterday. Nice to have a damp day. Our summer has been wet here, but all fell in the first six weeks which were near record wet. Last few weeks have been dry. We are lucky here that we still get the fronts which have slipped south with global warming and we are also getting more easterly ...

Long lived trough with possible showers: Feb 7-

Finally got moist easterlies down here with showers and drizzle along the whole east coast. Been a few falls in the 10-20mm range in the hills around St Helens. 3mm here in Howden and still drizzling. That’s out best fall in about three weeks :? Has been a wet summer, but nearly all fell in the ...

Long lived trough with possible showers: Feb 7-

Monday looks like repeating Sunday. Showers west central, Otways, Gippsland in places heavy. Convection in central, but sea breeze will stop in just north of metro. Tas has showers on the east facing hills. Warm most spots except where rain is persistent.

Tomorrow goes a bit more northerly and ...

Storm just east of here, lights and sounds.
Decent wind gusts…

Big falls under those storms. Multiple 30-60mm totals showing up on wunderground. Very impressive. Shame it missed other parts of Melbourne. Messy system playing out with Gippsland, bordering central, west central slopes, Otways ...

Long lived trough with possible showers: Feb 7-

Good to see some rain for east Gippsland yesterday and dribbles elsewhere. Wet 36 hours coming up for much of Victoria with southeast exposure. Be good falls in Gippsland, Otways and probably parts of west Central. TAS a bit on the edge but thinking northeast corner and northern tiers.

Progs ...

Guess new thread time. Quite a long live trough, so hot in the north, warm in the south and some showers. Maybe a proper break in the pattern in about a week.

Can we have a new thread/ title hillybilly (or anyone else?) Would be good to discuss some potentially interesting upcoming weather ...

Long lived trough with possible showers: Feb 7-

Messy sequence coming up with a long lived east coast low, putting the southeast in and easterly flow which slowly become more northerly over time. Lots of showers for eastern Victoria, the Otways, and northern Tasmania. Should spread to west central and eastern Tasmania though more sparse ...

Crikey HB, a bushfire has closed the Overland Track. As someone who has walked it a couple of times I would not think it was possible but there you go. I’m not sure anywhere in the bush is going to be safe from bushfires in the years ahead.

It’s frightening tbh. Those areas had 200mm plus ...

Very hot start to February: Feb 1-

Pretty awful sequence imho. The western third of the Grampians national park burnt out, the little desert park burnt over, multiple fires in western Tasmanian including one threatening the oldest known Huon Pines at over 3000 years old, and numerous fires burning in Melbourne's catchments. We also ...

Very hot start to February: Feb 1-

Well finally cooler temps now for a while. We got a brief shower here on the change, but missed the action with some cracking storms just norm of Hobart. A few spots scored 25-50mm. Mostly light for Victoria as expected but the odd good fall such as at Swn Hill.

Fortunately not much lightning here ...

Hot start to Tuesday. Now waiting on the change early to mid afternoon. Should see showers and storms fire for both Melbourne and Hobart, and areas north and east. Getting really dry for many areas including here south of Hobart so hoping for a decent fall, but will be patchy and hit and miss.

It's interesting how poorly the models have struggled with the finer details of the current system. But to have such heat and intense storms is interesting.

Details are always a challenge when there isn’t a strong focus. The trough is diffuse and not a great focus.

This weather is just plain ...

Stinker of a day here in southern Tasmania. Couple of 37C, including at Grove which was just a degree of its February record. Really humid and a little unstable, but cells are sparse and weak.

Bit more active for VIC with some more good falls though pretty patchy. Western parts of the Otways have ...

Great to see the rain last night. Best in west central and central for a while. Some really handy falls, such as 40mm in Halls Gap. Unfortunately patchy, and in the Grampians it misses the fire ground to the southwest. Eases the fire risk where rain was better and gives the forests and gardens a ...

Geez what a stinker of a day. Heaps of 43’s around Victoria. Down here in Tasmania was either humid and mid 20’s on coastal ares or pushing into the 30’s inland. Max of 25C for us down south of Hobart again. Very humid with status at about 400m this afternoon on the hills.

I’ve been on the north ...

Was a bit surprised how hot it got yesterday at a few spots including Viewbank (38C), Mildura (41C) and Ouse (32C). Goes to show how hot the airmass over Australia generally is atm. January number just out all show a picture of heat. Oz second hottest January, and states and territories all ...

First hot one today. Bit of cloud early for Tasmania, but otherwise sunny.

Tomorrow is hotter again. Near 40C for Victoria. Perhaps the odd strat shower or storm, but looks better on Monday and Tuesday.
