Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Balmy 19C here today. Not quite record warmth, but geez not far off. Lots of site here missed record by about 1C. Bit cooler tomorrow and showers spreading across much of Victoria and northern/western Tasmania. Fronts for the weekend are look pretty interesting. Snow forecast to below 500m here, tho...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

18C here yesterday. Looks similar today, wind get blustery with a pretty warm, windy and rainy front for Thursday. Expect a strong rainshadow for southeast TAS and west central VIC and Gippsland. Much colder system for the weekend, which could well drop the first proper snow at spots like Trentham i...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Really mild for the southeast now. 17C for a max here yesterday and last nights minimum was 13.2C :( That’s a degree warmer than our average maximum. Showers pilling up on the coastal strip and ranges. Pattern sticks til Saturday when we get a strong front. That one’s got some very cold air, but the...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Doubled my event total overnight :D Back to really mild here and for the whole southeast. Days of nwly flow with clipping fronts. Will add up in the usual wet spots, and good to see some drought breaking falls being clocked up consistency in the Bass Strait Islands and northern TAS which had a very ...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

A wet and freezing day in Mansfield with temp maxing at around 7c. Snow was settling after lunch from about 900m. Drove to Tolmie where it was heavy at times. There'd be a thick over now. That’s great. I saw those photos over on ski.com and didn’t register who took them. Bit of a non event here. 0....

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Big falls across northern Tasmania and the ranges and immediate coastal strip of Victoria, but not a lot elsewhere. The whole system is remarkable zonal :( That pattern continues today. Down here in southern Tasmania we’ve actually managed a light frost. Currently watching a few stations in northern...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Strange day here today with 6C at noon then popped up to 12C at 1pm. Few blustery showers, but this isn’t our event. Looks very wet for northern Tasmania and southern and mountain Victoria. Good snowfalls on the alps. Watch for a large storm surge on the coast with local flooding around the bay, and...

Vigorous westerly stream with a series of fronts: July 19-

Vigorous series of fronts the next ten days with a front almost daily. Starts out quite mild but by the end the air is on the cooler side of normal. Totals will add up in the usually favoured spots - northeast ranges, western Tasmania, east central Victoria. Will set these area up for a very wet Jul...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Few showers around here the last 24 hours, but not much in the gauges. Has turned quite icy. Saw some sleet yesterday at just 300m, and snow was hanging low in the clouds, would guess falling to about 600 to 700m. Had a chilly max of just 9.3C at our place. New systems already inbound. Very vigorous...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Event keeps giving four TAS. Just shy of 20mm in the gauge for the past 24 hours, making over 70mm for the event, and over 100mm since it all started Tuesday last week. Thats $600 of free water in the tanks :D Peak falls approaching 300mm around the top of Kunanyi. Wettest parts of Hobart around 150...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Got a southeasterly stream set up over Tasmania this evening with heavy showers. Rounding out the event nicely. Had another 9mm so far, so about 60mm for the event now. Very mild moist air, but cools sharply tomorrow with snow levels dropping to about 800m here. Btw I had missed a few records yester...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Another 20mm or so for us down in southern Tasmania. That makes it 50mm the last two days. Hilly spots widely topping 100mm, while the flats typically about half that. Peak falls would be around 150mm. Great dam filling event, after very little runoff since October last year. Couple of small dams on...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Great system for southeast Tasmania. On the flats mostly 20-40mm, and on the hills 40-80m. Most areas the best daily fall in nearly 12 months but for some the best since May 2022. Still plenty of bands sweeping in from the east the next 24-48 hours. Hard to pick how much more but thinking pretty wid...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Progs all holding. Looks wild for Tasmania and most of Victoria. Moderate to heavy falls as a very deep low cross the east coast of Tasmania middle of Monday then moves north to be in Bass Strait. System doesn’t quite push as far north so the warm air advection is a bit weaker into northern Victoria...

Sounds interesting HB. So no low-level snow for my area? I see BOM have dropped the snow level in the NSW Central Tablelands to 800m on Monday or Tuesday, that's pretty low for the CT these days. Will be good to bump the abysmal winter rainfall tally in Victoria. System starts cold then warms. Look...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Big event showing up with a strong ECL forming in the south Tasman sea on Sunday moving west then north through early next week. Initially starts with cold air and showers, but as the low moves west we see strong warm air advection in a warm wrap around with heavy rain. Winds will be gales or worse ...

Handy little follow-up for northern Vic. Dribbles elsewhere. Kinda as expected. Air has chilled a bit with light snow on the alps.

That’s kinda it for this system but a big event brewing for the start of next week. New thread time :D

Fantastic 24mm for us yesterday. Best 24 hour fall for the year. Turning on a good month in southern TAS. Front today is fading so mainly wind and cloud with showers in the usual spots. Airs still quite mild so no real joy for skiers. Major low for next week but big spread on the models. Could devel...

Wow that’s great. Seeing my old haunt in Ferny Creek has turned on a Dandenongs special with nearly 60mm so far.

Great to see areas east of about Geelong to Bendigo score with this system. Many areas the best fall in three months. Miss for western parts, though, as was mostly expected. Now delivering for eastern half of Tasmania where we really need it. Short window for heavier falls to mount with strong bands...
