Another low showing up for the weekend which initially puts us under hot northerlies shifting cooler westerly to southwesterly. Not a particularly hot system, so mostly thirties on the spike day on Saturday, touching 40s in the north of Victoria.
System has a decent connection with tropical ...

Blowie one here today with a few sideways showers. Another 0.4mm. Was a bit heavier on the hills and some decent snow out west though won’t stick for long. Another weak from tomorrow.
New system for the weekend, getting warm then a shower change. Could well have some rumbles. Rain totals look good ...

Cool 4C here this morning. We got 4C back in 2023 with a very light frost in the bottom of the horse paddock, so no record. Looking around, stations with a decent record in Victoria and Tasmania were mostly around 2C above previous records (or a bit more). Given the warming, that puts this event ...

Showery night here. Just steady stream which added up at 0.4mm at a time. Not far from 20mm now for the event. That’s getting above the average of the model here so can’t complain ;) still running well below average for the month, but no longer single digits. Slowly clearing now.
Olympic park did ...

Nice 24 hours of winter in summer 😁 Lots of showers here, though mostly pretty shreaded. Air is quite dry which is helping with snow levels but means showers get shreaded by topography. Just 2.4mm more here so far. Makes nearly 15mm for the week, so not to grumble about but not really a tank filler ...

7mm here this morning. Now waiting on the front and deep southerly which sits on a line from about Cape Otway Victoria to Southwest Cape Tasmania. Lots of stream showers, small hail, and thunder in the cold air, more so for Tasmania but also coastal Victoria. Snow down here to about 800m.
Expect ...

No idea how Zeehan, on Tassie’s West Coast, which averages more than 2300mm a year in rainfall, can be under threat from fires.
It’s pretty bad :( Apparently there was a similar fire back in 1981 so can happen in the coastal heath down there. Looks like faily limited impact in the big forests ...

33C with high humidity. Absolute stinker for southern TAS. Showers pretty sparse with the change and tbh not expecting any here, but maybe I’ll be surprised. Some ok falls on the northern tiers of Tasmania, but unfortunately missed the west coast fires so far :( Some heavy showers on the Overland ...

Exceptional humidity down here today. Our nearest station at Dennes Point touched 18.7C and the Hobart Ap AWS touched 19.7C. We live on shallow bay with locally warmer SSTs and it peaked at 19.9C. All those numbers are at February records give or take. Maria and Tasman Island also touch and go for ...

Couple of hot and windy ones ahead of a strong front thursday PM then much colder air for the weekend. Some showers and storms on the front, mostly impacting the eastern half of Victoria and western Tasmania then lots of westerly and southwesterly showers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Expecting ...

4mm here yesterday. Nice to have a damp day. Our summer has been wet here, but all fell in the first six weeks which were near record wet. Last few weeks have been dry. We are lucky here that we still get the fronts which have slipped south with global warming and we are also getting more easterly ...

Finally got moist easterlies down here with showers and drizzle along the whole east coast. Been a few falls in the 10-20mm range in the hills around St Helens. 3mm here in Howden and still drizzling. That’s out best fall in about three weeks :? Has been a wet summer, but nearly all fell in the ...

Monday looks like repeating Sunday. Showers west central, Otways, Gippsland in places heavy. Convection in central, but sea breeze will stop in just north of metro. Tas has showers on the east facing hills. Warm most spots except where rain is persistent.
Tomorrow goes a bit more northerly and ...

Storm just east of here, lights and sounds.
Decent wind gusts…
Big falls under those storms. Multiple 30-60mm totals showing up on wunderground. Very impressive. Shame it missed other parts of Melbourne. Messy system playing out with Gippsland, bordering central, west central slopes, Otways ...

Good to see some rain for east Gippsland yesterday and dribbles elsewhere. Wet 36 hours coming up for much of Victoria with southeast exposure. Be good falls in Gippsland, Otways and probably parts of west Central. TAS a bit on the edge but thinking northeast corner and northern tiers.
Progs ...

Guess new thread time. Quite a long live trough, so hot in the north, warm in the south and some showers. Maybe a proper break in the pattern in about a week.
Can we have a new thread/ title hillybilly (or anyone else?) Would be good to discuss some potentially interesting upcoming weather ...

Messy sequence coming up with a long lived east coast low, putting the southeast in and easterly flow which slowly become more northerly over time. Lots of showers for eastern Victoria, the Otways, and northern Tasmania. Should spread to west central and eastern Tasmania though more sparse ...

Crikey HB, a bushfire has closed the Overland Track. As someone who has walked it a couple of times I would not think it was possible but there you go. I’m not sure anywhere in the bush is going to be safe from bushfires in the years ahead.
It’s frightening tbh. Those areas had 200mm plus ...

Pretty awful sequence imho. The western third of the Grampians national park burnt out, the little desert park burnt over, multiple fires in western Tasmanian including one threatening the oldest known Huon Pines at over 3000 years old, and numerous fires burning in Melbourne's catchments. We also ...

Well finally cooler temps now for a while. We got a brief shower here on the change, but missed the action with some cracking storms just norm of Hobart. A few spots scored 25-50mm. Mostly light for Victoria as expected but the odd good fall such as at Swn Hill.
Fortunately not much lightning here ...
