Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

Both EC and GFS speeding up Tuesday’s front. Might cut the warm wave a day short.

Rain for Tas is tending to increase, and Vic might also see something middle of next week. Anything welcome as we face the triple wamy of a positive IOD, developing El Niño and record global temps.

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

29C in Mildura and 25C at Campania the tops today. TAS number only a couple of degrees below early season records. Had 24C here today which is about 9C above average.

Tomorrow looks similar, perhaps a touch higher.

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

Liking the looks of the rain with this event for TAS. Ironical that the northwest flow which will bring record warmth to the mainland including high (or higher than high) fire danger will stream multiple bands of rain over Tas. We very much need it, so fingers are crossed. Progs otherwise not changi...

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

First warm one in the sequence. 22 to 24C around metro, close to the highest in the state. Temps ended up a degree or two above the forecast which is interesting. Might be a pattern - dry soils - or just one of those random things. Cooler down here in Tas, with just 17C at our place. Tried to rain a...

Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

Thread for a long, possibly record breaking warm to hot spell. Currently looks like it will last for ten days over inland areas, with perhaps a couple of short lived cooler spells in coastal parts. TAS goes in an out of the earth air, so while above average will see some solid changes, and ironicall...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

0C this morning. Bit surprised it dropped that low with a bit of wind and plenty of cloud. Cool mostly fine day ahead.

Progs are so warm. Suspect lots of records at risk.

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

Wow, just went outside to start gardening and it started to snow. I was doubtful last night when they said snow to 700m this morning 3.5° now. That’s great to hear. Cover down here to about 600 to 700m, though mostly light. All gone at lower elevations with a quick return of mild westerlies today. ...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

System split Tasmania 😩Cold but just a mm in the gauge. Should get a bit more tomorrow with a weak trough. Snow to quite low levels here today, though only a few cm so won’t stick for long. Progs for the week ahead are quite shocking. Enjoy the cold folks 🫣 EC has temps into the 30s somewhere in Vic...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

In Melbs this week where the rain band was pretty solid though skipped through fairly quickly. Good for footy clearing just in time for a great Collingwood win 🤗 Southwest gales to push through from about noon. Be nasty in the eastern burbs. Snow levels look like dipping to 800m or so, so tops of Ma...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

System looks very windy, but slips south at the wrong spot. Only 100-200km form this been a good rain producer and being a bit of a fizzer. Expecting it to land in between. Some lower level snow, but not the snow to sea level system for Tas and 500m it was looking like. Next week looks horrible for ...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

Just a mm down in Howden. Was never a system for us. The main event is building in the bight. Unfortunately it’s starting to peak further west and possibly slide which will drag the heaviest falls over the ocean west of Tasmania. Hopefully it can edge a bit further west as we really need an event. N...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

Turning into quite a dumper for east central as picked by the progs. Funny, looking at radar earlier would not have expected it. This whole sequence looks like an east central to eastern ranges special. Heavy falls. Patchier elsewhere and not a lot in the northwest. Western tas will get bucket loads...

Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

Warm start to the week, followed by a series of fronts the last cutting off into a strong low. Big change in temperatures for the week, with 850Ts starting out in the low teen, dropping to around -5C over Tas and around -3C over Vic. System is probably the coldest for the year, so might finally see ...

Re: A cool showery end to winter

Another cracking frost this morning then then rather balmy afternoon. Just shy of 17C. Glorious weather for early spring though definitely needing some rain here now. Decent system for the week ahead :)

Re: A cool showery end to winter

Cool start to spring here with 13C. Nice weekend to come.

If EC sticks the week ahead is going to bring some pretty wild weather. It’s been very jumpy so guess we will see 🤣

Re: A cool showery end to winter

The resorts closing early are closing too early and losing money at their own peril. Snow is not done just yet. I have no idea who they're listening to but their (most likely greenies) consultants need to be sacked and replaced with people who think logically. They have no snow. It’s been a record ...

Re: A cool showery end to winter

Showery one to finish winter down here with a mm in the gauge. Scored a little bit of hail mid arvo. Mountain picked up a dusting which is good to see. Slowly clearing then a blustery and quite warm start to next week. Another westerly front to follow. Patterns quite progressive atm, but overall pre...

Re: A cool showery end to winter

Few showers here the last 24 hours but didn’t quite tip the gauge. Winter ends how it’s been most days with a mild one. Apparently Baw Baw, Lake Mt and Mt Selwyn are closing this weekend for the year. Don’t know I’ve seen that before. Historically El Niño and positive IOD years tend to be dry but sn...

Re: A cool showery end to winter

Rainy night with 5mm. Good to get a bit, but monthly total still sits below 40mm 😩 Few showers to come today. Bit underwhelming totals for much of VIC, but good falls for western Tas. Should be some chunky showers today for southern VIC east of the city and the western third of TAS. Airmass slowly c...
