Re: Showery westerlies with a series of fronts: October 11-16

Finally scored a half decent event down here with heavy showers with brief hail for Saturday. 12mm so far, with more to come. Climbed Mt Wellington earlier and was some have decent spells of blizzard conditions, though not sticking too well with warm sun and warm ground. Another front for late tomor...

Re: Showery westerlies with a series of fronts: October 11-16

Looks like a wet 24 hours for much of VIC with the first part of the system. Showers for western Tas, but not a whole lot through the east. A good follow-up system for those who scored last week. Funny how Victoria keeps flip flopping from dry to wet to dry this year. A lot of luck involved. Most th...

Showery westerlies with a series of fronts: October 11-16

Looks like a productive spell of westerlies ahead with a front and low on Wednesday followed by a front a day til next week. Will add up in southern Victoria and western Tasmania, with lighter falls elsewhere. Temps should be cool enough for some snow in the alps. With cold air and fronts often time...

Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Finished with just less than 10mm. Was never our system. Too far north and east. Now looking to the next week which looks more classically El Niño with fairly dry westerly systems which means a very wet west coast for TAS, but most other spots not a lot beyond showers. Some chance for storms mid wee...

Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Just wow! arriving at Mansfield to find just shy of 140mm in the Nylex. This is an event total. Lake Eildon will surely exceed 100% tomorrow. Outflows are around 20k ml per day with inflows peaking around 120k ml per day around now.Unbelievable stuff :o Jeepers that’s a good falls. Awesome to see t...

Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Heaps of daily record falls through the eastern third of VIC. I didn’t have the record hot and dry September (and July to September followed by record rainfall on the 2023 climate bingo. Crazy flip. Good for putting a lengthy pause on the fire season in eastern Vic which is excellent news. In the No...

Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Ripper event for the eastern half of VIC. Probably excessive for parts of the northeast. Progs basically nailed the gradient with as little as 5mm in the western burbs but over 50mm in the east. That heat is extraordinary. No wonder the fires in Gippsland took a big run overnight 😬 Unfortunately a m...

Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Thread for the coming low. Looks like the best rainfall event for some months, perhaps locally a year. Biggest falls through the eastern third of VIC and northeast Tas, but hopefully everyone gets a bit.

Will be a notable snow event on the tail end, though being mid spring it won’t stick for long.

Yep, reckon. New thread. Happy to start it.

Wasn’t confident it was going to stick but pleased to say it has.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

First September in about 15-20 years that has been this warm. The last few years have been quite cool and normal. Not sure what the panic is? Last September this warm was ten years ago, which was the hottest on record. 23 of the past 26 Septembers have been warmer than average. This has included th...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Some nasty winds down here today with a couple of showers. 2mm in the gauge. It briefly snowed on the Mt this arvo. Quite a change from the low 20s we had at 9am. Crazy heat in NSW with lots of mid to high 30s. Would have been records across most of the state if today happened one day earlier 🫣 As f...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Couple of records yesterday at odds spots including Frankston. Nothing too significant for VIC, but heaps of records back in WA where some stations have broken their hottest night or day temps multiple times in the month. Melbourne looks to have equaled it’s warmest September on record and had its d...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Guess almost 50:50 Melbourne will crack 30C today. Would think the barren southwest plains around Avalon will head into the low to mid 30s. Then 37C for Sydney tomorrow for the hottest NRL grand final day on record. That max is just a degree below the October records and would have smashed the septe...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Crazy dry airmass over parts of VIC atm. DPs locally touching -10C even on the flats. That is seriously unusual. Lucky not much wind around as those values are low enough to cause serious concerns for fire weather even with temps in the 20s. Intererating to see how warm its go today. Seems to be abo...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Warm 21C here today. Should get some showers here tomorrow with a sneaky front, while the the mainland starts to warm. Shocking heat back in WA. A number of near 100 years stations broke september records last night by 3-4C. Crazy numbers. Progs next week all over the shop. Somewhere will get good f...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Mild 18C here today. Tomorrow looks similar. Slowly warming up now in Vic ahead of a pretty hot weekend for September. Melbourne might well sneak up to 30C. Progs for next week are wild. Will wait to see if they stick. Progs flip from record heat potentially into the 40s in the Mallee on Tuesday to ...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

We got a frost this morning. Might sneak another tomorrow morning. Just light but still welcome. For the mainland warmer air starts moving in, with warm conditions in the north for Wednesday becoming widespread Friday and mostly hot for Saturday. Looks to me like it will fall just below the record f...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Progs wiggle but still pretty consistent at least til Monday or Tuesday. Saturday looks a bit hotter. Might crack 30C in Melbourne. Sunday a touch cooler. Quite a split for Tuesday between GFs which makes a run a the mid to high 30s for most of Vic and EC which is more like mid 20s. Lot depends on h...

Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Steady warming trend in the week ahead, peaking at possible early season records around the start of October. Grand Final day will be close to record warm, then warmer again into next week. Potential for significant rain in about a week, though details will matter a lot. Progs are pretty jumpy on th...

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

Hard to know what the next thread is. Weather is all over the shop this next ten days. Mild then hot, possible record hot for the time of year. Had missed it, but Melbourne will smash the driest July to September on record. Also record warm. Really sets the state up for early fires if it doesn’t rai...
