Gusty front for today. Looks mainly a coastal VIC and western/northern Tas system. Possible rumbles as the best of it comes through mid arvo. Not a lot in it, but keeps things ticking over. The very far southeast has been remarkably lucky this month with rain and cooler temps as the rest of Oz sees ...

Front last night packed a lot more punch than expected :) A quick 8mm with gusty winds. Was a few rumbles around southern Tas, though I didn’t hear anything over the sound of the rain. Tops up a very good month down here. Progs looking pretty dull for the next seven to ten days. Not sure what the ne...

Light frost here this morning. Looks like a warm sunny day to come before a few showers overnight. A bit of wind with that. Not much in it for VIC. Progs looking pretty dull. Light onshore flow with the odd weak front. Maybe a bit more active on Tuesday. Nothing extreme for the next seven to ten day...

Probably the best snowfall on the mountain down here all year. About 25cm on the top with drifts to about twice that in spots. System was cold and dry so very light snow, would be powder if we had lifts 🤣 Here’s a few shots from climbing up there today. Good workout walking in snow for about 12km an...

Crazy crazy winds in southern TAS last night. Lots of trees down and power outages. Peak gust just shy of 160km/hr on Kunanyi which dragged the feels like temperature down to an Arctic -25C 😳 Good falls near the south and west coast but it’s a dry airmass so struggling to make it north and inland. T...

Warm and windy for the southeast today. Odd shower and even a mid level storm possible. Not expecting much in it, but sky still looks very dramatic.
Strong but moisture starved front for tomorrow.

Lots of storms around here yesterday but held just inland with a humid sea breeze. Finally got a weak wrap around in the evening though only a few mms. Still, finished the weekend with a very healthy 50mm. That’s 20,000 litres on the water tanks or about $250 of free water 🤗 Shower mid week to come....

Absolute cracker of a storm here last night. Peak rainfall rate of 230mm/hr and strobe lightning for nearly two hours. Picked up 41mm to 9am to add to the 4mm yesterday. Paddock dams are full after that with heaps of run off. Sets us up now going into summer. Not much in VIC with flow mostly westerl...

8mm here today. Bit underwhelming tbh. The upslide slipped south of Tas for a while which dragged the rain away. Big band currently building to our north, so should get a heavy burst overnight. Might include some rumbles. After a dry few months for most of eastern Tas we need it. Been a strange day ...

Steady rain here this morning. Still waiting for the easterlies to kick in which will bring the heavy falls and perhaps storms as today progresses. So far had 2mm. Unfortunately the whole system is a bit messy on the latest runs and also tending to push the heavier rain further south. Still looks li...

Strange weather here the last few days with cold misty mornings, sunny mornings to early arvos then chilly sea breezes which have brought in banks of fog to about 300m on the hills. Each days has got a little warmer and a little more humid. Starts to change tomorrow with the low approaching southeas...

Progs looking really wet for TAS. Most models showing 100-200mm across much of eastern Tasmania. Also looks wetter for VIC. Big infeed wrapping into the low drawing warm moist air from the north Tasman Sea. System then ends with a cold outbreak around this time next week.

Latest EC has 200mm down here over the weekend. That’s serious. Hopefully it falls over the full 48 hours and not in a few hours. The totals are approaching the extremes seen in the April 2022 and May 2018 events. 200mm would see our annual total jump from something around decile 2 to decile 6

Two strong systems showing up in the forecasts for the next week. The first develops in an easterly dip on Friday developing into a strong Bass Strait then east coast low. The second then moves up from the southwest for mid week and ends with a burst of cold air. The whole sequence is very dynamic. ...

Actually scored a light frost here this morning with a minimum of 1.9C. Warm day then with a max of 21C. Models seem pretty settled for the weekend. Low developing out of the easterlies. Looks very wet for Tasmania, with lighter falls for southern VIC. We do need a big fall down here before summer. ...

Nice wintery one down here. Feels like the southeast is in its own little world atm with cooler weather and rainfall while the rest of Oz sees grinding dry and heat. Picked up 2mm with most falling sideways mixed with hail in gale force swl flow. Odd spot around here close to 20mm Bit of a cover on ...

Cold showery Sunday down here though showers were fast moving and very hit and miss. Did make it up to Kunanyi mid arvo to catch a nice little blizzard. Nice wet day ahead for today, before a warm up. Low for next weekend. That system looks good for rain down in the southeast but will bring record h...

16mm for the last 24 hours here. A bit of snow visible on Snug Tier this morning, so settled to about 700m. Slightly milder today as a low in the westerlies is thrown northwest towards VIC and TAS. That system looks quite wet for the usual wet spots (Otways, Yarra Ranges, western Tas) but showery el...

Finally scored a half decent event down here with heavy showers with brief hail for Saturday. 12mm so far, with more to come. Climbed Mt Wellington earlier and was some have decent spells of blizzard conditions, though not sticking too well with warm sun and warm ground. Another front for late tomor...

Looks like a wet 24 hours for much of VIC with the first part of the system. Showers for western Tas, but not a whole lot through the east. A good follow-up system for those who scored last week. Funny how Victoria keeps flip flopping from dry to wet to dry this year. A lot of luck involved. Most th...
