Re: Victoria - Tropical rain event - February 2nd-8th 2010

Morning all. Just found my login details after months of lurking.
7.30am reading and we're around 100mm here, while my cousin (a big lurker - hey BT!) in Macclesfield (back of the Dandys) reports 160mm!

Extraordinary event with hours to go one presumes.

Re: Recent Summer Wrap-up

Thanks for the reply David.
Sure "deadliest heatwave" and "worst storm" help build the case, but I'm not still not sure they should be used as a measure of climte change.
Nevertheless appreciate your position and you posting the link to the DHS document.

Re: Recent Summer Wrap-up

David Not questioning the stats that are there to see (hottest day, hottest year, warmer oceans etc etc) but how do you measure the "deadliest weather event"? Or "the worst storm"? Surely this is more emotive than statistical, and only sensationalises the phenomenon of "glob...

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010

AV / Karl ... your thoughts on the progression of the low near Adelaide?
Starting to see the wrap around now...what are we looking at? Another 24-36 hours of this event as it heads east?

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010

Who said it was damaged by ice/hail alone Mosaic?

Sorry for your damage Lily...as much as many of us get excited and are in awe of events like this, there is always the other side of it where someone has been personally affected. Wish you well in the cleanup tomorrow and the coming weeks.

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010

That monster just missed to our south here, but we witnessed clear rotation and a funnel dropped above us as it approached, lasting 30-40 seconds.
Unfortunately missed the photo opp.

What a ripper!

Looking forward to the rest of the meal!

BTW - hardly got more than a few spits...amazing.

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010

I appreciate and concur with the sentiment that rain is needed and welcome across much of rural VIC for farmers and townships who have battled for too long against this prolonged drought, as well as the catchments for Melbourne water storages, but to say it is pointless for Melbourne is not quite ri...

Re: Vic - cut-off low for Sun-Mon 17-18 Jan 10

Heaviest shower/squall of the day just passing through now.
Edging to high 30's and counting.

Decent hail a little earlier but was shortlived. No hail with this one.

Re: Vic - cut-off low for Sun-Mon 17-18 Jan 10

A tick over 30mm here. Loud crack and flash at 1.17am this morning from a good storm followed by heavy hail and gusts.
Keep it coming!

Well done AV and Karl...spot on!
