Re: Becoming humid with showers, storms and rain: November 22-30

For those wondering the SSTs explains a fair bit. Values off the NSW coast are locally over 6C above the recent average, which would put them about 8C above values back in the 1950s. Thats is bonkers. Peak rainfall intensity increases around 15% per degree of SST so that about doubles the peak rain...

Re: Becoming humid with showers, storms and rain: November 22-30

Surprised that the media aren’t really talking about this system. Strikes me as potentially very nasty for the worst affected regions. Suspect they're struggling with the mental gear shift from the El Nino heat/drought/fire thing, to this. Steady rain set in here and may have to light the fire agai...

Great post as always @QldTwister love your mix of enthusiasm and analysis.

Really interesting week coming up for E/SE Australia with some models showing massive rainfall totals in some spots. About 15mm in Elwood since start of the thread and 30 in Mansfield.

Re: Becoming humid with showers, storms and rain: November 22-30

Looking forward to the onset of some humid and stormy conditions this weekend. Melbourne is looking dry presently. East central, parts of the lower NE are still quite green after benefiting from the huge early October event. Hoping this El Niño is reaching it's peak with a return to more average con...

Rolling thunder with light to moderate rain at times in bayside for the last two hours now. Very pleasant. Looks to be getting more severe as the line moves east. Cell over presently Kinglake looks meaty.

Would have had about 5-8 mm here.

Woke to heavy rain here around 6am with about 5mm falling writhing the hour. We’re still very green and lush up here in the NE so this freshened things up nicely. Expecting more something late arvo here.

Stunning photo. Nice coldies down the bay this morning. Just had a pretty decent hail shower too! Looks like the southern slopes are getting nice snow with BB and LM looking to have had 5-10 cm so far.

@Macedonian how about you?

Back to wooden jumpers today. July like presently.

Just wow! arriving at Mansfield to find just shy of 140mm in the Nylex. This is an event total. Lake Eildon will surely exceed 100% tomorrow. Outflows are around 20k ml per day with inflows peaking around 120k ml per day around now.Unbelievable stuff :o

35mm for the event so far in Elwood but rain has started again. Now en route to Mansfield and eastern suburbs are very wet with solid moderate rain.

Just 4mm here with a few more reasonable showers this morning and it's cold again after yesterday's summer-like early in the day temps.

Luck to get 10mm with this system to date after a warm windy night. Green up Mansfield way but surface was getting crunchy before this fall.

Cracking squall line through Melbourne and a cracking squall line through Hobart at the same time. That wouldn’t happen often. Wild day down here. Crazy warm start, then cooled basically all day and with that squall is now back to proper winter for a day or two. 6mm in the gauge, and some light sno...

Re: Blustery change: July 27-

20 degrees booked in for next week ! No wonder I have a headache 🤕 Yeah these persistent mild/warm temps are concerning and very El Niño. I recall spikes in temp mid-winter but not a string of 16-19 c temps in July lasting weeks, in Melbourne. We should be seeing 12-14c maxima. Definitely lately no...

Bitterly cold morning here with 10mm overnight. Radar and satellite looking pretty good for the NE and looks like more decent alpine snow today down to around 1100m. Scary winds in the Alps this morning.
