Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

20mm here over the past 24 hours. Nowhere near as much as eastern areas, but a decent drop nonetheless. The wind has also been a feature, especially yesterday and overnight, with big gusts and sideways rain at times.

Currently fog and a mild 9c. Should see some showers and/or drizzle at times today.

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

5c here this morning. Picked up about 5mm yesterday, bringing the month to 35mm, so tracking much better than the previous couple of months. An interesting week ahead, with plenty of activity. Looks like east central and coastal areas will do best in Vic, especially today and Monday with a southwest...

Easterly low followed by a series of fronts: July 9-

19mm here on Tuesday, which is our best 24 hour fall since April. Shows just how dry things have been in recent months. Might get a couple more mm later today depending on rain shadowing and whether the front has much strength left.

Deep low with some showers: Last week of June

A foggy, drizzly morning here. We managed to get 10mm over the weekend, most of which fell after 9am yesterday. That brought June's total to a pitiful 20mm and July starts with 6mm. So a very dry June here and I kind of suspect that July might turn out to be on the dry side too, especially with a lo...

Deep low with some showers: Last week of June

Just windy and mostly dry here. The odd bits of rain have amounted to about 1mm over the past week and a measly 16mm for the month. This could end up being my driest June here, which is normally a reliably wet month. Hoping we can squeeze just a little more before the end of the month, but I have to...

ECL followed by a sequence of fronts: June 5-12

Cloud cover, and probably an inversion, capped the temp to 4.5c here last night. Heard some rain on the roof during the night but it wasn't enough to register in the gauge. Looks like northern and western Vic will get a bit today. The pattern has been slow and sluggish for months now, which seems pr...

-1.1c here this morning, with a heavy frost. It's not often we get this cold.

Melb CBD got down to 1.4c. Haven't checked but it's probably quite a while since it was last that cold.

Blustery overnight with the front coming through. A further 4.2mm here. Quite a good stream of showers through Melbourne this morning.

Manage to scrape 4.4mm here today with a brief, but fairly heavy rain band. Thankfully the wind has now died down. Puts us on 9.6mm for the month, so possibly shaping up as another dry month unless something big changes late in the month.

ECL followed by a sequence of fronts: June 5-12

Wind is just starting to ease off a bit now, but it was howling like crazy last night. It was the worst I have seen here in many years. Unfortunately, it also resulted in a very strong rain shadow, so we’ve had zero rain. Good to see most areas have had rain. Radar is showing some more showers on th...

Plenty of activity coming up with the weather. At this stage, apart from west facing areas, including east central, rainfall looks a bit underwhelming overall. It will almost certainly be very windy, especially Monday night into Tuesday, so wouldn't be surprised to see a severe weather warning poste...

Strong front and low: May 30-

Good to see the widespread falls.

16mm here. Heavily rain shadowed to start with, but the rain was quite heavy once it pushed through.

That takes the month to 57mm. Not too bad given how dry things have been more broadly.

Strong front and low: May 30-

Extremely windy here last night, with some really big gusts at times. With week after week of calm, settled weather, I think I almost forgot what these northerly blasts are like. Great to see some rain on its way, which is now making its way into western Vic. It definitely looks like northern areas ...

Another huge high with days of southerlies: May 15-

Good to see at least some spots in Vic and Tas getting something in this otherwise very dry month. 5mm here yesterday, mainly overnight and morning from a persistent southerly stream of drizzle. Now we have about a week or so of very settled, dry weather ahead. Good conditions for any outdoor jobs, ...

Grey, foggy and drizzly here since yesterday morning, with just a few mm. It's feeling very wintry though.

MTD is now 35mm. Will likely creep up a little more with the occasional showers this week, but otherwise on track for below average unfortunately.

Yep, felt like a standard winter day here as well, with a max of 10c. And a chilly 3c here currently. We typically get an inversion on nights like this, so the temp may climb back up later, but shall see what happens. Otherwise, we could be in for a frost. 6mm here with the showers yesterday. Slowly...

Beautiful sunrise HB.

Another 5mm here to take the total to 25mm. That looks to be about it, with rain now mostly contracting to NSW.

20mm here, quite heavy at times late in the evening. Currently a beautiful autumn morning, cool, misty and barely a breath of wind. Should rain again later though.

Another big slow moving high: April 27-

What has really stood out to me is just how stuck the synoptic patterns have been over the past 6 months. It’s not unusual to have blocking highs or repeating troughs, but the highs in particular have been stuck for very long periods, including right now. I was looking over my records recently and e...

Another big slow moving high: April 27-

A bit of a humdrum phase of weather. A big dominant high to our west and south and patterns generally stuck. It has been raining on and off here this morning from a southeasterly stream of showers, but has only produced 1mm so far. Feeling chilly though, especially in the wind. We'll finish April wi...
