Re: Victoria: Tropical rain event - March 19 to 23 2017

Jake is right, all the instability was around the ranges, coming down was never going to bode well. Check out the CAPE from 4pm today according to GFS: http://stormcast.com.au/stormcast.html?ops=gfs:2017032006:2017032006:mel:cape:null:0#sc Pretty much identical for the last four model runs. About 5:...

Hi All, One thing I've learnt to look for is quickly developing Cu fields from satellite images. This can be seen on the border (very quick development) in the last hour (with about half hour lag). http://realtime.bsch.com.au/index.html?satmode=truevis&region=melbourne&loop=&images=&...

Re: Vic: Long warm/hot spell, unsettled end - December 24-

Hi All, Haven't been on here for a while. Last major post was after my chase on Christmas day 2011. What a great day that was, I'm sure there are some here hoping for a similar display. I'm out chasing north central Vic today, along with a few other chasers I know of. Curious if anyone else from thi...

Re: Hotter with a late change, November 16 to 21

Hi All, Bit of a disappointment across most of Melbourne today. Seeing reports of damage come out of the west though and and interesting path of damage through Truganina way. Long narrow path of damage according to the emergency vic site. Was anyone out that way and see anything? Nate EDIT: Easier t...

Re: Vic Cold Outbreak July 31 to August 2

Went up to Donna Buang last night, was amazing stuff! We were up there from about 1am - 5am. Few 4WDs around, but we mostly had the mountain to ourselves. Branches down all over the place, with one that blocked the road for our descent, had a 4WD with winch though so that worked well! The toboggan r...

Here we go, radar has some great cells over the bay. I was watching them from Mt Dandenong for a while but left just as they got going (things seem to happen when I leave). Hoping for some lightning in the Eastern Suburbs - camping in the backyard tonight!

Re: Vic: Dec 11 to 20 - Mainly dry and becoming hot

Hello Everyone! I have been at Surfers Paradise for the past half a week - have had a ball. Got to go chasing on Saturday, although we limited ourselves to the afternoon. We hung around until about 3pm in Rathdowney. Right as we left a cell south of us split, the left mover intensified and headed st...

Haha, thanks for the welcome everyone, but I've actually been around here for a while! Used to be known as greensyboy, but since moving away from Greensborough I thought that I should probably have a profile that is a little more accurate and won't change over time (Sugarlata being my nickname).

Re: VIC: Warmth, Showers & Thunderstorms - Aug 24 to Sept 1

Interesting post by the Bureau of Meteorology on Facebook earlier on: "SCENARIO: A strong cold front is expected to hit the coast, with severe wind gusts over a large area and the possibility of tornadoes. Tornadoes produce much stronger winds, over smaller areas. QUESTION: If we were issuing a...
