Looks like it's starting to unravel now slowly.
The moment bom issues a severe thunderstorm warning for my area, it dies off 2 minutes later🤣🤣

Hell of a lightning show at the moment. Frequent strikes. Had a brief downpour, but not sure if the main band will come over the bay

This storm is developing further from my observations and is still dangerous. Just drove a frightening dry downburst in Carrum Downs.

The Geelong storm, viewed from across the road from my house, Cranbourne. Quite a structure. Looks violent. Definite green tinge

Strong seabreeze keeping temps down along the coast, but just a few kilometres inland and it's baking.

Makes me wonder why they named the now relocated Frankston weather station after it's old name (Frankston). It doesn't give a true reflection as Ballam Park is about 5km inland. Currently 30 there ...

Yet to see 40 degrees this summer in Melbourne. Cool change jas blown through, and maximum remains at 39.8.
Next chance may be next week. February as we all know is the hottest month

Thunder here this morning. Been weird the 3 or 4 hot days near 40 in Melbourne this summer. They've all started showery, murky, thundery

HB never said it was the hottest summer ever. He said 2024 was the hottest year on record and 2023 was the hottest on record before that etc. So be good if you stuck to what was posted.

The basic data is freely available.

Currently this is what they show when you add the forecast…

Guess we may as well have a thread for Mondays system. Geez wish it was a look at all those storms :? but instead another hot one. Very gusty wind, with a late change. Dew points don’t drop out too badly, but still will be a dangerous fire and heat day. Temps will probably top 45C in the Mallee ...

Warm ahead of a trough with showers and possible storms: January 20-25

Just putting this here, since the same would be done if it was a record heat/fire event despite being thousands of kilometres away. Deep snow on a beach in Florida, despite being told such events won't be happening again as recently as 2013 😁😁😁
Yeah, yeah, i know. It's not that they won't happen ...

That thunder is next level. Been a number of years since I've heard cracks like that in short intervals (less than 30 seconds) and all close by.

Ballarat forecast just updated: 'The chance of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon, possibly severe, with damaging winds, large hail and heavy falls in the afternoon and early evening.'

The last bit is new - so seems BOM think the worst (best?) is yet to come?

So basically the usual ...

Nasty numbers around Melbourne. Curious that Olympic park is once again strangely cool. It is a cooler location, but suspicion is that irrigation of sports grounds is lowering temperatures in hot days. You can see this in the dewpoint which is higher than surrounding stations.

Down here a humid ...

Unfortunately it looks like another East Coast event. Finished the year at Aireys Inlet with about a third less rainfall than average, 450mm compared to an average of 625mm. That’s nearly the same rainfall deficit as the year before, making two exceptionally dry years. The December temperature ...
