Wild day down here with gales, bands of heavy showers and even a bit of snow on the mountain. 4mm for the day, but up to 10mm around here where showers have been better. Progs basically unchanged, but stringing out the sequence all the way til September. EC put an absolutely gobsmacking 41C into So...

10mm here too. Forecast models beyond Thursday are all over the shop. Yep, after a lifetime looking at forecasts and models, now I mostly just look in the Nylex every morning! Something is broken with short and long-term forecasting these days... well, long-term has never been great, but you'd thin...

Great snow cover down to about 600m asl (and lower), and quite widespread too. Excellent photos on social media from all over the state, including Marysville which is about 400m asl. Mt Dandenong continues to have bad luck it seems. That's what i put it down to. Hasn't been a good cover of snow ther...

Only 0.4mm here. Warming up now with sub-tropical air advected in from the Southeast (yet again). Our max temps this month are nearly 2c above average. Could get close to our hottest July for daily max temp mean. Only Thursday and Friday might have below average temps in the next week for us. I sus...

Highest air pressure record in Australia was NOT broken, as confirmed by BoM, due to computer error. I've been saying all along BoM needs to drop some of their tactics for computer modelling, but let's not start that debate again. https://amp.abc.net.au/article/104063982?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3...

Minus 1.4 this morning here, but as low as -3 in Cranbourne East at my parent's house. For the first time in a long time the doors on my father's car were very hard to open with ice forming on the inside of the door too. Seems to be the coldest out of the whole metro area here this morning. Fair bit...

Not sure what BoM is up to. They had a forecast of 13 today for the CBD, then revised it to 9 at midday, only for the temp to reach 12.
Myself as a somewhat amateur meteorologist could see the milder mixing in from the south.

Temps all over the place depending on whether you held onto cloud and a breeze or not last night. Most notable number I’ve seen is the -12.9C at Liawenee which is a new July record in the ~20 years of data. Melbourne’s 1.0C must be the coldest in a few years. Here around Hobart we had Sc through th...

Nice frosty 1C here this morning. Tomorrow should be colder, but do need the winds to go off shore. We have had a light onshore southwesterly all day. Apparently if Melbourne gets below zero will be the first time since 1984. I doubt it will but will see. The Melbourne site is very compromised with...
