Grand Final Weekend front

Hmmm, maybe 3mm tomorrow, similar in a week. Not a lot. Looks like you did ok. Not a drought breaker but freshen things up a bit. Decent rain band though fairly dry low levels ahead of which means pretty strong rainshadows. Be interesting to see if this helps with the crops out west where it’s been ...

More fronts Sept 19-25

Hmmm, each model run has less and less rain. September is a right-off. Another terrible month. I'm in Mildura currently. I feel like everything I've been told is a lie. Mainly green all the way from Melbourne through Bendigo and Swan Hill and to Mildura. Sure pockets were dry past Swan Hill but ...

The westerlies have failed again for the mainland croppers who rely on westerlies. Thats a pattern that has been getting more and more common since the 1970s. The pressure over southern Australia has risen by nearly 3hPa in the critical April to July window, which translated into 5-10% per hPa ...

Some interesting stats coming through from last night according to Weatherzone, including Adelaide's coldest spring morning ever (since records began ofcourse) ar 1.3 degrees and Cleve's first ever negative temperature recorded in ANY month. Quite impressive.

Very windy overnight and still going on now. Today is meant to be a lull day according to BoM.
If this is a lull, I'm terrified to find out what tonight will be like. BoM going for potential 130km/h winds here.

I don't get it. The Sudden Stratospheric Warming events over Antarctica have been causing record cold in South America and southern Africa. I was always under the impression that's what they do. Why not in Australia? We instead get the opposite like we're cursed or something.

I expected just a sprinkle for most of Melbourne and it seems that's exactly what will happen.

Wild day down here with gales, bands of heavy showers and even a bit of snow on the mountain. 4mm for the day, but up to 10mm around here where showers have been better. Progs basically unchanged, but stringing out the sequence all the way til September. EC put an absolutely gobsmacking 41C into ...

10mm here too. Forecast models beyond Thursday are all over the shop. Yep, after a lifetime looking at forecasts and models, now I mostly just look in the Nylex every morning! Something is broken with short and long-term forecasting these days... well, long-term has never been great, but you'd ...

Great snow cover down to about 600m asl (and lower), and quite widespread too. Excellent photos on social media from all over the state, including Marysville which is about 400m asl. Mt Dandenong continues to have bad luck it seems. That's what i put it down to. Hasn't been a good cover of snow ...

Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Only 0.4mm here. Warming up now with sub-tropical air advected in from the Southeast (yet again). Our max temps this month are nearly 2c above average. Could get close to our hottest July for daily max temp mean. Only Thursday and Friday might have below average temps in the next week for us. I ...

Just over 25mm. In line with the the Frankston Ballam Ballam AWS (which is actually in Karingal, and 4km from Frankston.

Seem to be in the sweet spot for now. CBD only has 1.6mm.

Non stop rain since 8am has meant our max temp is 8.6 today here.

It always frustrates me how the coldest air in these scenarios nearly always gets flung out into central NSW and southern Queensland 😒
