Deep ECL with heavy rain, gales, storm surge and some snow

Good to see so many 'proper' falls. We seem to be in a bit of rain hole even locally, with plenty of nearby sites recording 20-35mm to 9am, but just 16mm here to add to 4mm yesterday. Sort of reading that makes me doubt my Nylex :? Was on the Spirit last night, and waves were going completely over t...

Deep low with some showers: Last week of June

A disappointing 4.5mm in the gauge at 9am; expected about double that. Finishes June way less than half of average at 31.5mm, ytd 234mm vs 380mm average. Sleety rain here this morning with the odd small flake at 2.5C. Ski resorts look to have done okay - not a bad start to school hols for them. (Mac...

Deep low with some showers: Last week of June

Managed to scrape together 7mm for the dates so far - every bit helps!

Running exactly 1C below average here for minimums, but only fractionally below for maximums.

Deep low with some showers: Last week of June

Sorry, accidentally started another thread (now deleted) - somehow missed this one.

Another freezing morning here, and despite full sun, the frost is taking a while to melt.

1mm in drizzle overnight, and definitely new thread time. ABC are excited about the next system: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-22/ ... /104009400

ECL followed by a sequence of fronts: June 5-12

Just back from several days in Sydney - bitterly cold for a couple of them, with a breezy 2C one morning. Not what I went to Sydney for :o . Back home, my wife says we had -5C on our hilltop, which would be easily our coldest minimum in 28 years here, while a friend in nearby Mt Egerton reported -6....

Finally, some weather of (minor) note here - 6.5mm to 9am, to add to 2mm a couple of days ago. Wind has been blustery here, but not ridiculous - so far.

Hopefully a few more mm to come.

17.5mm here, so we finish the month on 28mm (vs 77mm average). YTD of 202mm is exactly 100mm below average.

Nice to see some good falls in the 80-100mm range in the north-east.

Up to 15mm here, better than expected and will make our May total somewhat less pathetic! Maybe a bit more to come.

The ECL could offer us a significant start to June, which would be a nice follow-up.

Light to occasionally moderate rain here for the last hour or so. Early days, but pleasantly surprised (so far) how much is making it over the Divide.

Strong front and low: May 30-

Looks like a very widespread event - rain for most. ABC are excited https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-28/weather-first-cloudband-brings-rain-80-per-cent-australia/103898042 Looks a bit rain-shadowy (is that a word :)) for us, but still good for 10mm or so. Strato, I think you might do better than ...

Another huge high with days of southerlies: May 15-

Something might happen around May 30th with a NW rainband perhaps? Yep, feels like something wants to give around the end of the week. Models bouncing around all over the place, but at least most now have half decent totals... most of the time. Meanwhile, at Mt Read in western Tassie, another 18mm ...

Slightly off topic while we wait for something interesting to happen with the mainland weather... The latest climate driver update makes interesting reading http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/enso/ . BOM have upgraded to La Nina watch, while the threat of a positive IOD (my least favourite driver) has ba...

Slow moving easterly trough: May 9-12

Unlucky by a few kms for both parts of this event, finishing on 4.5mm. Great to see all those big falls though; something from nothing, so in many ways 'bonus' rain. Btw Nino 3.4 just tipped into negative. That’s really early and you need to take bout 0.5 off it because of global warming to make it ...

Had our first short but quite heavy shower earlier. Bizarre experiencing almost stormy weather with the barometer at 1032 hPa :? (I'm weather-confused a lot these days.)

Not sure about others but i am struggling to remember such persistent highs for weeks on end. Feels like the start to an El Niño drought but we are meant to be seeing a La Niña :? I get it, and agree re persistent highs. After decades of thinking I understood climate drivers and climate forecasts t...

An unexpected 1mm from drizzly showers last night.

Fine again now, but perhaps a sniff of something from a trough dipping south over Vic at the end of the week?
