Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7
Wow, just went outside to start gardening and it started to snow. I was doubtful last night when they said snow to 700m this morning 3.5° now. Good stuff. There were some pretty 'blobby' showers (to use the technical term :) ) here early yesterday morning, so makes sense. 23mm here for the dates; 3...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7
Geez it’s bleak here today. Probably up there with the worst day of winter back in June. Agreed! Wind has dropped, but haven't seen more than 5C today, and often down to 3.5 to 4C with the heaviest showers. Another 6mm since 9am so up to 20mm for the last day or so. Adding to earlier in the week, q...

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7
After several hours of nerve-wracking, house-rattling wind, it seems to have swung a bit more to the south-west, and backed off somewhat. Fingers crossed...
Edit: Just after I posted, there were a few blobs of wet snow during a heavy shower.

Horrible day here, worst wind of the year I'd say. Yard and paddocks a mess.
14mm and 4C; no sign of snow here either.

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7
Healthy rain here this afternoon with another forecast-beating 10mm plus (still raining).
Some scary gusts late afternoon, but wind seems to have backed off over the last couple of hours.

Great falls to the east!
'Only' 5mm here, but that's about double the forecast, so a good result.

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7
Just noticed this thread - posted in the wrong one! EC has snow to 600m asl around here on Friday evening. Latest BOM 4 day synoptic charts certainly show a deep southerly fetch at the end of the week, which usually means low level snow... although I've thought we were a chance a few times this wint...

Re: A cool showery end to winter
Ironically, EC now showing a cold outbreak late next week. Can’t keep up. Yesterday it was showing record warmth. As one who has to regularly plan outdoor work, I'm finding forecasts more than a few days out particularly unreliable over the last couple of months. Meanwhile, we received another 3mm ...

Re: A cool showery end to winter
6mm here and still raining, so another useful drop - although still going to be well below average for August.
Running about 1C above average for maximums; 0.5C for minimums.

Re: A cool showery end to winter
Thanks for the updated thread once again HB.
Light showers on and off most of the morning here, and continuing now; perhaps getting a tad heavier. Nothing was forecast until evening, but we'll take it, especially as I'm working indoors today

13mm to 9am for us, nothing spectacular, but still our best daily total since June and already exceeding what I was expecting, with more rain falling.

Lots of short, very heavy downpours this evening - unexpected. 10mm over the last few hours and more to come.

Just outside the date range, but looking like a proper cold outbreak later next week. One to watch, and possibly worth a new thread if the models hold for a couple more days.

Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15
What are Majors? I suspect he means the major (and therefore higher elevation) ski resorts like Buller, Hotham etc. as opposed to the likes of Lake Mountain, Mt Buffalo, etc. The former have picked up several centimetres of fresh snow this morning, which they desperately need (and more if they can ...

Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15
After a couple of cracking days (though too windy for my liking yesterday), quite a wintery morning here, 6C with drizzly showers; 5mm to 9am.
It is just bizarre hearing these warm, dry Tassie reports - you'd think being 400km further south would count for something

Finished the month here with 2mm overnight, making a total of 44mm, so only about 60% of average - first below average month for a while.

Re: Long mid winter mild spell under westerly flow: July 12-
Fairly unremarkable spell of weather here, with cool, drizzly and often windy conditions. Temps (max & min) are only running about half a degree above average, so not enough to really notice. July rainfall is down at 30mm mtd, but again, it's been so wet up until now, there's still water everywh...

Managed an even 20mm for the dates, so keeping things wet here.
Certainly amazing to see so much water in store in early July. Just about every big storage statewide except Rocklands is 90% plus. Virtually unprecedented for this time of year.

Been down the south-west Vic coast - glad we left ahead of the forecast 7m surf!
Back home, 8.5mm in the gauge in 48 hours to 9am, and a couple of mm since. Wild winds, but not quite as bad as I was expecting.
